I have received conflicting info on the topic so I decided it was best to come
to the source. I am creating training videos in the swf format and I have been
told that swf A/V files do not require Flash Communication Server MX or
additional hardware on our web server. Is this a true statement? I am using
Camtasia software to create the training videos. We are bringing up a new
financial system and want to provide the videos (20+ different videos) on our
web server to train 980+ purchasing users and 1250+ general ledger users.
After our go-live date, we anticipate between 400 - 500 concurrent users
accessing the different videos. If it Flash Communication Server is required
for our needs, could you provide recommendations on licensing from the info
below? Per formulas on
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/flash/articles/flv_live.html &
http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashcom/productinfo/editions/fcs_whitepaper_ bandwidth.pdf Total Bits / sec = 320 x 240 x 15 = 1,152,000 Bits / sec
Bandwidth = ((320 x 240 x 15) 8) = 144,000 Bps Convert Bps to Kps = (144,000
Bps x 8) / 1000 = 1,152Kps or 1.2 Mps BW(server) = N x S BW = 400 x 1,152 Kps
= 460,800 or 460.8 Mbps If my calculations are off, please correct. The
quality of the videos are critical but I will test the frame rate of 5 to
reduce the bandwidth. Any comments / recommendations would be greatly
appreciated.
