50,000 user deployment - Help?!! tranz007

macromedia flash flashcom:
I am looking to deploying live streaming to 50K users. Is there a way to span
FCS over multiple servers? Also, what would be the bandwidth requirements for
such a deployment say for a 30 minute span?

Funding this is not an issue at this point in time and we can burst to
multiple GIGE pipes if needed.

So, what are we talking about as far as datatransfer per month would you
guess? Is this possible to figure out? There needs to be a calculator built
that would help with this.

I am looking to deploy this within the next 60 days so I need all the help I
can get ASAP.

Thanks

Tony

OK, well after some research and math I have found out that 50,000 users at
300k in a live stream will need 3.14TB of transfer for the 30 minutes that its
on. Turning that into something that into a size of pipe. That would require at
min of a 10MB connection, based on all users being logged in for the full 30
min.

So, I'm still left with the question? Can one brute of a server handle it? or
Is there a way to utilize FCS over multiple servers?

Hi tranz007,

Do you want your 50k users online at the same time?

The capacity ceiling for the Professional Edition is ten (10) megabits of peak
bandwidth per second (Mbps) or 2,500 simultaneous connections, whichever limit
is reached first.

So, you need 20 FCSs for 50k users. It is easy to span FCS over multiple
servers.

Do you want to stream audio or video? Generally, a bandwidth of 22k/user is
ok for audio streaming while 96k/user for video streaming(size 240x180).

I dont think one server would handle that many users, it depends on what
your definition of a 'brute' of a server is tho.

Are you sure that a 10MB connection would be enough? I calculate that you
would need a minimum of a 15Gb connection, which equates to ~1800MB.
300Kb/s * 50000users = 15000000Kb/s (15Gb)

A white paper on this can be found here:
