macromedia flash flashcom : FLV files - offline and online

Hi,

(It's been suggested that I ask this question here - I did originally ask in
the
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=194&thre
adid=1037577)

I'm trying to find out whether it's possible to use the same flv file in two
situations:

1) online and streamed (using Flash Communications Server)
2) offline and progressive download (without using Flash Communications Server)

I'm looking at creating a learning programme that needs to be available
online, but also available as a downloadable package for use offline (probably
on a CD or from the user's hard drive). It will have lots of video and
therefore will need streaming when used online.

http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/mx/flash/articles/flv_howto_03.html implies
that it should be possible, but I need to confirm that.

I haven't got Flash Pro yet - this is a research question to help work out
whether to go down that route.

Thanks,

Mark

Yes, it is not a problem. I have created a lot of projects that have been a
standalone player on a CD and it connects to the streaming server without a
hitch. You don't even need to change your pointer. Just save your online file
as a standalone.
Oh, the only hitch you could run into is, the user not having a net connection
(very rare these days). I have also run into problems with people behind
firewalls and have needed to change from RTMP to RTMPT.
I am online today trying to resolve a RTMPT problem.
Anyway, have fun with it.
