macromedia flash flashcom : Ive fallen at the first hurdle

Ive followed everything to the "t" with the instillation of the flash coms
server on may machine. Used all the default port settings for communication on
set up.

Now for the life of me its not letter me connect to the "localhost:1111"
server in the admin panel. All the user names and passwords that I set at
install are correct. Ive even checked this in the .ini admin file too.

I click on the manage servers button. Theres one sitting already on the left .
I click on that to connect it. Put all the "localhost:1111" user name and
password in. But the "Login attempt to the server failed below" appears.

Im running McFE farewall too but Ive given the server and all its friends full
access to the internet.

Can anyone tell me what Ive done wrong here or is there something that I
should have done as well.

Excuse the question, but have you started both services? FMS and the Admin
server?

If yes, please check the log files for error messages.

Are you running on RedHat or Windows? If Redhat, can you check
/var/log/messages, if you run Windows please check the windows event logs as
well.

Assuming you are trying to access the admin console using a web browser on the
same machine as the admin server... perhaps you need to add the appropriate
ports (minimally 1111) as allow inbound for local (and/or LAN) connections?
(It's not worthwhile to just allow those ports as outbound to the Internet.) I
don't think most firewalls block inbound ports originating from local
connections, but maybe yours does.

To prove it is or isn't your firewall, you might try disabling it temporarily.

You don't have any proxies and such configured in between your browser and the
admin server, right?

The URL to access the console in your browser should be something like:
file:///C:/{FMS2_Install_Path}fms2_console.htm.

Lastly, do you have any wierd local Flash player sandbox/security settings?

Just some ideas.

Assuming you're running the console.swf on the local FMS machine, the host
will be "localhost" not "localhost:1111".

Hi everyone,

Ive come back in this morning and was able to log straight in to the FCS and
the Admin server.

Hi mm_patrick,

I had started all servers but not cessesarily in any set order. Is there a
starting order sequence?

This time around I started:
1. Flash Media Admin Server 2
2. Flash Media Server 2

Admin username and password and then Bingo were in.

edge log report for yesterday
2006-10-31 14:31:07 1740 (w)2581201 No primary license key found. Switching to
Developer Edition.

Hi kaliatech,
I must have read the instructions wrong and added :1111 to the server address
rather than leaving it empty as it is using the default.

http://livedocs.macromedia.com/fms/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href
=Part_Managing.html

Hi JayCharles,
You were right about the server port ":1111" not being on the end of the
server address. The instructions were a little confusing as I read:

http://livedocs.macromedia.com/fms/2/docs/wwhelp/wwhimpl/js/html/wwhelp.htm?href
=Part_Managing.html
repeatidly and only this morning, I read it again at it clearly states:
"If your server is installed on a port other than 1111 (the default),
you must enter the port number as well, for example localhost:1234."

Well guys, thank god its working now and thank you all so much for your help
as without you all I would not have been able to get over this problem.
