Flash Media Server 2 problems

Flash Media Server 2 problems dean1012

macromedia flash flashcom: I'm using Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 (RHEL4) on a dedicated server. I have
followed installation instructions to the T (tried the PDF documentation way, 2
or 3 different ways from these forums, and on several google sites) and the
installation works 100%. The server and admin server are apparantly starting as
well, because I can connect and login using the admin interface. However,
that's all I can do. None of my applications will connect to the server they
all complain about "cannot connect to the server".

I thought it could have been my programs, but i tried the official sample
programs and they didn't work either. Upon further examination of the logs, I
find this:

core.00.log:

it looks like whatever "Failed to start listeners......" is, that's the
problem. Does anyone know if this is indeed the problem and how to fix it? I am
using the developers license and the FMS server is on the same server as the
apache installation. installed with all defaults (ports, paths, etc...) except
user/group is fms and daemon is no right now (I tried yes before and it didn't
work either). everytime i "start" the server, it floods edge.00.log with the
above messages about failed to start listeners.

I appreciate everyones responses, thank you.

does anyone have even the slightest clue what this problem could be and how i
could fix it? i'll take anything you can throw at me.

i'm under a deadline and it'd be nice to get FMS working in the next 4 hours.
thank you all

doesn't anyone know how to get this working or ever heard of "Failed to start listeners...."? That has to be the problem. I'll take any suggestions i can get.

more information:

I do have WHM/Cpanel installed on the box. I can't find anything in CPanel/WHM
that is blocking it though.

selinux appears to be permissive and ipchains is disabled.

any clues? please? can someone at least reply back and say they read this post?

If a service can't start listening on a port it basically means either than you
are not allowed to listen on that port. In this case you are listening to a
port > 100 and you don't need to be root for that so it can't be the problem.

In the other case the port is already in use. Make sure you stop a
server/service before you try to start it again. FMS really stops and starts
very slow, it takes time.

Maybe this is your problem.
