macromedia flash flashcom : problem streaming to clients

ok i finally figured out how to put videos on the server and have clients get
streaming video from my server. the problem i am having is that lan clients
have perfect video quality its really amazing. but wan clients get really
really choppy video no matter what kind of quailty video i am broadcasting. i
looked that the sever monitor. server is using up 50 percent of my ram and
almost only 1 percent cpu which is awesome since the video i am trying to
broadcast is 24fps and at 640x480. bandwidth it looks like about 4kbits per
second when i had the 10 clients connected. as far as internet i have speakeasy
with 3mbit/768kbit and when i test the true bandwidth its about 2.3mbit/610kbit
so i have a really good connection. what could be the cause of the choppy video
and audio then? if i embed the same video in my website and check it from
client machines on the wan side it works awesome. is there some setting on the
media server that i have to tweek? any help would be really appreciate it.

Since your lan clients are having no problem, I suspect the problem is your
internet bandwidth to the server.

FMS bandwidth is measured in Mbps, and with the video you're describing, 4Mbps
for your 10 clients sounds about right. If FMS is trying to cram 4Mbps down a
3Mbps pipe, things will slow down.

I agree with Jay. You might look at the latencies to your hosting service.

I found the same problem on progressive downloads and it was the hosting
service sucked when it came to latency on their internal loop getting stuff
out the big pipes on the net. Thus choppy video. I decided to add in FMS to
provide the video and quality improved.

i thought about bandwidth problem but i had the same problem with the smallest
flvs that i had just for testing which were only about at most 1mb. as far as
fms mine says kbpersecond not mb. i could snagit but i am not sure hot to put
it here.

I just reread your first post, and thought again about your internet speed. I
guess I was haing a little brain lapse when I posted last...

You say that you have a 3mbit/768kbit internet pipe. The low number is your
upload bandwidth, so you've got 768kbps of upload speed, not 3mbps

well there seems to be somthing wrong with the broadcasting. my server crashed
last weekend and i have been busy bringing it back up. i had my isp monitor my
bandwidth to see if i am stressing the network and they told me that the most i
have ever pushed the circuits was at 60 percent bandwidth usage so i still have
plenty left. plus having the same problem on the lowest quality video is kind
of not right. i tried messing around with different flash videos and the whole
server just went down on me and froze. every time i tried restarting the server
it was way too slow to do anything. so i decided to just reinstall server and
give it try again. one thing i don't understand is that Flash monitor tells me
that my bandwidth usage is given in kb per second not megabit. even if it was
in megabits that would be 3migabits just for one user trying to receive video
from the server imagine if there were 100 users trying to get video from the
server that would mean you need a huge bandwidth something more than T3. that
just doesn't make sense to me.
