Hi all,
I'm a website programmer in the UK. I have a requirement from a customer to
set up a website with a 2-way video chat facility, similar to the one on this
website:
http://www.bowelweb.com/chat/flashchat.php. I understand how this can
be done with Flash Media Server, and am currently evaluating this product.
Our customer is a forward-thinking charity, and is planning how best to make
their video-counselling services available to clients by means other than the
traditional web browser. I have a few questions concerning the extent to which
users of mobile devices (phones, PDAs, Blackberry, whatever...) might be able
to take part in a two-way video chat:
1. Would it be possible for a user with a video- and internet-enabled mobile
phone to browse to the website and take part in a two-way video chat, perhaps
using some kind of Flash plugin on the phone?
2. Failing that, does anyone know whether it would be technically possible to
patch standard video calls from a mobile phone into a video chatroom running on
Flash Media Server?
3. Are there any other Adobe (or non-Adobe!) products which we should be
looking at with respect to the above requirements?
I don't have any experience of video calls or of streaming video to/from
mobile phones, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
