macromedia flash flashcom : Video chat to/from mobile phones

Hi all,

I'm a website programmer in the UK. I have a requirement from a customer to
set up a website with a 2-way video chat facility, similar to the one on this
website: http://www.bowelweb.com/chat/flashchat.php. I understand how this can
be done with Flash Media Server, and am currently evaluating this product.

Our customer is a forward-thinking charity, and is planning how best to make
their video-counselling services available to clients by means other than the
traditional web browser. I have a few questions concerning the extent to which
users of mobile devices (phones, PDAs, Blackberry, whatever...) might be able
to take part in a two-way video chat:

1. Would it be possible for a user with a video- and internet-enabled mobile
phone to browse to the website and take part in a two-way video chat, perhaps
using some kind of Flash plugin on the phone?

2. Failing that, does anyone know whether it would be technically possible to
patch standard video calls from a mobile phone into a video chatroom running on
Flash Media Server?

3. Are there any other Adobe (or non-Adobe!) products which we should be
looking at with respect to the above requirements?

I don't have any experience of video calls or of streaming video to/from
mobile phones, so any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Adobe has created Flash Player 7 for Pocket PC. This allows you do to watch
FLV format. Now the OS it self does not have drivers for any Camera on the
phone and thus I can't test to see even if the Pocket PC Flash Player 7 has
support for encoding FLV's. But even if you got past that point you would
still be at the mercy of bandwidth from the phone carriers. Basically the
whole video on cells phones is a big project and would require many connections
and custom apps at this point.
