macromedia flash flashcom:
Is anyone out ther using the Flach AV Components for live video conferencing over dial-up successfully? I know dia-up is not ideal, but I am using small pictures to compensate. I am experiencing what seems like random delay for some live video windows that may grow to ove 20 seconds with both ends of the conversation set to 33kb. I also sometimes get large gaps in syncronization between the video and audio received. Any suggestion/ideas?
33kbps is way too much for a dialup connection to handle. In my experience, I've found that dialup can't handle much more than 5-10kbps. Keep in mind that you have to account. for publishing and receiving. I publishing stream @33kbps + 1 subscribing stream @ 33kbps = 66kbps... way more than dialup can handle. The problem is that the buffer (both publishing and receieving) is always going to be full, and you'll almost always lose video frames. The flashplayer will drop video before it drops audio, so that would explain the sync issue. 20 seconds seems to he a really long delay, but then again, I've waited that long for an image to start loading on dialup. My advice... lose the video if you want to conference on dialup. You'll still have delays with just audio, but they won't be as severe as if you were trying to send video.
