I want to look at some shared objects in the Media Server administration page,
but when I click on them I get the error "Failed to make a debug connection."
Does the main.asc have to be running in the development environment in order to
view the contents of the shared objects?

Just add to you code:

application.onAppStart = function() {
application.allowDebug = true;
