ADOBE FLASH MEDIA SERVER "JUSTIN TV" HELP jackking74

macromedia flash flashcom: Hi guys , new to the forum and to live streaming i have some questions i need
someone to answer and the guys who i have building my site are stuck when it
comes to live streaming , as for me i know nothing at all about it, so hear
goes.

Justin tv in the USA are broadcasting 40+ Live streaming webcams 24/7 using
flash , they are getting about 3000-5000 hits at one time yet seem to have no
backing or sponsership, am i right in thinking the amount of bandwidth this
site is using would look something like 10TB a month?

This would cost ???????? a month to run the site?

Obviously they are not paying this , so could somebody enlighten me towards
how they are doing it on such a budget..

I want to build a site with 5 live streaming cameras and (more to come) a bit
like Justin Tv i want to be able to broadcast around the clock 7 days a week as
and when i please (but not 24/7)..
when the site is launched i expect to get between 1000 and 5000 hits per day
and the users will be watching for no more than 60 minutes.

could someone tell me the best way and cheapest way to do it using Flash

Will i need my own dedicated server (looking at MT media temple)
how fast will my internet connection need to be?

what tools will i need to set something like this up , sorfware/hardware.

please can someone help us build a monster.

JK

They've actually gone through a number of different approches... see article here:

Hi Jay thanks for the reply, i have read this artical and many others about JTV
but being new to the hole process i understand nothing about how easy/hard it
is to do.
The situtuation we have is we have a team of 9 people wanting to put a project
together which would certainly be front page news all over the world , we have
a amazing PHP developer, 2 designers and can put our hands on state of the art
equipment 24/7.

our idea we can only give a year before someone puts two and two together so
we need to get set up and running, the problem we have is nobody hear knows
anything about live streaming, how it works , or how to set it up and broadcast
to the masses , and it's causing us all a massive headache..

our project can be up in two weeks with all of us on board , what we don't
have is the know how on streaming.

I have rang several live streaming companies (not telling them my idea, cause
they will pinch it) , but i have asked them questions which would answer my
problems without giving the game away.

all of them tell me the same thing , if i want to live stream a project on the
net with an audience of 1000-5000 per day it's gonna cost me a fortune.
Looking at JTV i now know this is not true, it can be done at low cost.

I know somebody can help us which is why i am on hear, i know nothing about
computer programing or web design and my team know nothing about live streaming
so we need some simple questions answering.

Q1. we want five live streaming cameras to broadcast on our site 24/7 using
the adobe flash media server software, how do we go about this without hiring a
streaming company?

we expect traffic on our site to be 1000-5000 people at any one time watching
our site (in the first week)

we want to be able to turn the live feeds on and off as and when we please.

could somebody tell me the whole process of how we do this, exactly what
software we need, what size server , how powerful our internet connection needs
to be?
Or better still give me the name of somebody who can talk us though this.

thanks

JK

Yes - you go and hire yourself an experienced professional (or two).[/q]

Agreed....either hire an expert or do the research...its all
available...nothing comes for free.

Also, you may need someone a little more heavyweight on the software
engineering side than an amazing PHP developer if you're interested in heavy
bandwidth utilization optimization.

software:
FMS $ PRICY but the best!
WOWZA $ CHEAPER than FMS but not as good as (in my experience)
RED5 FREE but youll have to work your way around NO SUPPORT and less (if not
missing) documentation

Hardware
you will need some load balance configuration
on your servers
i recomend at least 3 servers for FMS 1 origin license and 2 EDGE ( like 5k
users)
would recommend a colocation center to put your servers
you pay montly fee but you are certain that you have your servers up and
runnig with no connectivity issues
and a webserver

this is just computer side
now...
you need at least 1 IT guy to configure your servers and let them run flawlesly
another person to prepare your FMS application to handle everything that you
would want
and the rest to finish up your web page

lots of dollars on a nice web cam and mobile data roaming (not to mention you
will need to write your app to allow you to stream your live cam)

any more help... just mail me our PM

(check out this website www.x1fmradio.com (we do live streaming with FMS)
audio/video)
