All colors are matching.

Maybe your client is pulling up an older version from the computer's cache.
Did you have different colors in a previous version?
Have him dump the cache and reload it. It's worth a try anyway because it
happens a lot. Refresh only refreshes the html that loads the swf file, but
doesn't refresh the swf file itself. That has confused a lot of people!

The top navigation consists of six flash movies with expanding tables between. Do you see a color shift between the movies and the background? My client is the only one that sees this so far and I'm wondering if anyone else does. So, how to remedy?

The Flash movies are set to have a background that is the same hex color as the .gifs. The .gifs that make up the background are adaptive. Should they be selective? Any advice appreciated.

i can feel a colour diff from ur 'swf' and bg gif image.
ur bg colur in swf is lighter than the image.[ but a slight difference, its diffcult to find]
thts all.

i think export a bg image of same hex value of width 2X2 in max quality.
u can also try to export an image from flash itself, having same bg colour of ur flash movie.


or make the whole top header in flash

anyway it all depends user colour settings.

Indeed there is a difference. TWo options here: publish the movies with
wmode transparent; doesn't work in all browsers, but should take care of
most (it being IE). Other option (but not guaranteed to work); use GIF image
as background for the flash movie; can be 2-bits at the right color. In
Flash set export option for this image to lossless; it will add some, but
just very little to the filesize. Your client is obviously watching at 16bit
colordepth, as still most people will; at 32 bit the problem vanishes on my
PC (winxppro IE6).

Thanks for the tips! I will try those. As a note, I have since changed the background color of the URL relating to this post from 39e53a to 339933, the latter being "websafe".

I don't think anybody needs web-safe colors anymore. I don't know anybody
using 256 color mode now days. The more important thing is that the colors
match. If mac users see a different shade of green than pc users, who
cares? Long as it matches the background.

Maybe you didn't understand what I was getting at.. If the base move, loaded
gifs and background all use the color 39e53a, then there shouldn't be any
shade difference between the various objects, even though that color is not
in the web safe pallet. Know wudeye-mean? :o)

Nope; it's gone. Thought about websafe colors to, but did not suggest it as
the color might belong to company style with which not to mess. But it looks
okay now.

Yes I know, but as far as I know and have experienced this often creates a
problem still (and has created that problem since the early version of
Flash), except when viewed at with 32-bit colordepth. But I agree if you
say: there shouldn't be any shade difference. My guess is that Flash players
way of dealing with color calues is just slightly different from the way the
browser handles it.

Thanks to all for your help. Because I want the site to look good on as many platforms and browsers as possible, it looks like I'll be going with the web safe color. Fortunately, the web safe color is not much of a departure from the original color.

On another note, I'm having issues with the button rollovers. I'm going to post a new thread in the Flash actionscript area because I think that I may end up having to pass variables. Please look for the post there if you have any ideas or advice to keep those rollovers from sticking in place.

I can see it faintly as well.
You need to use "web safe" color instead of the "palette" color you are
currently using on your GIFs. Also, several pointers working with color
and GIFs... don't edit GIFs without changing them to RGB mode first. You
might also want to turn off the dither when outputting. Also-- you can
take the color value you need to match from the image itself, and apply
it to the background in your web page (paste in the values into the HTML).
Lastly, if you need perfection then reduce optimizing the graphics.
