macromedia flash sitedesign: Hi,

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

I made and published an FLA file yesterday. Went to open the file today,
and get an Unexpected File Format error, when I check the file, it now shows
the file size as 576K, when it was 12MB!

Can't open it, or edit it at all. I do have the published SWF, but I need
to get back in there ASAP.

Can anyone offer any advice, including why this may have happened in the
first place?

Thanks.

Hi

I could be wrong, but it sounds to me like you have saved the fla as
a different file format... ie saved it as a flash5 file instead of a
flash6 or viceVersa... If a fla is saved in a different name or
format, the file size can drop dramatically because everything that is
not used in the published swf is dumped during the saving process. In
fac, frequenty saving your fla in a different name is recommended for
backup purposes and to keep the file size down

You answered your own question- What you have is a corrupted FLA file as
some of your data was lost (in this case).

To prevent this (in the future) I recommend a "sequential save" for
important projects. As I'm working along and save the FLA file, I "save
as" -1, then -2, then -3 and so on. If any one of my FLA files becomes
corrupt, I've only lost a little work and can got back one FLA. In your case
there was only one FLA, so it was overwritten with corrupt info.

Hope this helps prevent this from happening in the future- I don't have a
solution to help you out of current situation (sorry).
