macromedia flash sitedesign:
I'm designing a site that requires a stand-alone SWF (not embedded in an HTML
page). The link calls the SWF directly, after testing for the Flash player. The
SWF has a pre-loader and streams its internal elements (streaming sound, etc.).

In testing, I've discovered that NETSCAPE (v. 4 thru 7) starts to play the SWF
almost immediately, and indicates in the status bar what percentage of the SWF
file is downloaded, while actually playing the movie. It does this even at 56K.
Streaming as it should be.

INTERNET EXPLORER, including version 6, however, do not start playing the
movie until the ENTIRE SWF is downloaded to the user's machine, causing a 30+
second delay (much longer at 56K). Streaming as it should NOT be. My pre-loader
is therefore negated by Internet Explorer.

The streaming anomaly has been found to exist on 6 different machines, all of
which are equipped with BOTH browsers, all of which are using Flash Player 7.
Netscape at 56K starts playing before Internet Explorer at DSL download speeds.

Any suggestions to correct the streaming problem will earn my eternal
gratitude.
