macromedia flash sitedesign : Star Trek Fade

Does anyone have a good idea on how to recreate a "Star Trek" type fade in for
a graphic. I've been trying various masks but everything I have created it
very bulky and not quite as smooth as I'd like it. This seems like it should
be pretty simple but I've had no real luck. If anyone has any ideas please let
me know. Thanks

yea the beam me up scotty fade.. like little dots if i remember is correctly almost like a TV snow pattern. don't know if that helps at all... thanks!
