It's likely better that you left off the URL. Larry
Dear Friends, We like to share with you our last project, 9/11 ReVisited. Please, do your comments.
Larry, sorry but I didn't get it! Could you explain it better? Thanks!
hey... looks good... really.. But I can't seem to find my way through the site.. it keeps popping windows.. wich alot of people don't like... your guestbook is dificult to read... and I don;t really get your redraw button... I don't want to sound negative.. your artistic flavours are good.. it's just your lacking a bit of user-friendlyness Regards, [Sprnv4]
[Sprnv4] Thanks for your words. We will rethink these windows, they were necessary to run the asp without restart the site, but at this time, we are thinking it is better restart the site from the Act 0 than pop a new window. Could you tell us more about the message board? What is difficult to read? It would help us a lot. The redraw button makes a new design in the main page. Did you try it? Best regards.
Hey again,.. I pressed the redraw button.. and the site just refreshes.. it's like a gotoAndPlay (1); kinda thing.. and the music also reloads.. so lets say someone pressed it like 5 times.. there will be 5 music layers in the internet explorer and might cause an internet explorer crash on slow Pc's.... I'm not shure what is so dificult about the guestbook.. probably the font(I'm not those people that hate pixel fonts.. cause I love them) ..or probably the backround.. maybe if you put a more smooth backround.. Remember these are all my point of views.. maybe more people should react so you can get a more global reaction.. Greetz, David
You are young, and so you belive everyone has young eyes. This, however, is not the case. To make your site more cross-generation, I think you should make your fonts bigger by maybe two points. Sprnv4, The redraw button is not just a refresh, it redraws the designed site, did you get it? If you don't load the project, the music will start again, but in the same layer, so, the crash is not possible, if you load the project and while you are waiting you press redraw, only the site will change, take a look at the parts. But your comment was very special, I haven't noticed the music, I will correct it now! Thanks! The guestbook, I think is the background, but we choosed this hardness, there is a nice point which is related with the concept and a negative one that you said! Nice! Your comments were nice! Thanks for your help! Some things just pass by ours senses! Regards from Brasil! Jo?o Francisco Mariano.
R, Thanks for your words! I'm really young, but my partner is not! He has 67, I think more than you, am I right? We discuss all the time about it, this time we chose the pixel font because the most important thing is the image and not the text in this project, for the message board, we decided to mantain the same language, there is a positive and a negative point, for you, it is negative, and we undestand that, but we expecte you liked and undestood all the project. Things like the title are passing by people. Your words are right! But this time, the pixel font had life! Regards from Brasil! Thanks again! Jo?o Francisco Mariano.
[Sprnv4], Wow! I'm impressed with your "eyes", thanks again, the sound was with aa problem! Everything seted now, be careful with the cache in your machine! Regards, and thanks for your contribution! Jfmariano.
Yes, he is older that I. And you answered my question.........you are thinking about this, and you have made a choice based on thought. You'll do well. Personally, I like the font you used, perhaps a little bolder may help some. Anyway, you are definitely on track (in case this doesn't translate, I mean the train is on the tracks :) R [quoted text, click to view] "www.OficinaDsG.com.br" <webforumsuser@macromedia.com> wrote in message news:cdcitb$jr9$1@forums.macromedia.com... > R, > > Thanks for your words! > I'm really young, but my partner is not! > He has 67, I think more than you, am I right? > We discuss all the time about it, this time we chose the pixel font because > the most important thing is the image and not the text in this project, for the > message board, we decided to mantain the same language, there is a positive and > a negative point, for you, it is negative, and we undestand that, but we > expecte you liked and undestood all the project. "dParser", Thanks very much for your words, what pixel font are you sing in your works? That useg is Bit Dust Two. Regards!
Typography, the use of lettering for design, is a complex subject. If you know someone who has a sign shop, you can learn a lot about fonts, and designing with fonts, from them. I used to do a lot of design with fonts, now I mostly write code for programs and manipulate images. I have liked Adobe's fonts best, have never been too crazy about TrueType, but I have PCs now, and mostly use TrueType fonts. The fonts I use depend on the customer or subject matter. Is the customer elegant? Classy? Industrial? Sporty? etc. Cuidado! Richard PS. I plan to enjoy your country in November. We fly into Sao Paulo and will see Southern Brazil, Iquazu Falls, and travel in Argentina along the coast. Francisco, I visited the site, very nice. You don't need my advice! I also better understand the use of the font. I truely feel some of the finest and edgy art is coming from South America right now. Is your partner part of, or a student of the Noigandres group? He would have been around the right age then? Are there photos (if possible) online of his work? Or does he, and you, see this new form as an extension of the ideas then? (Do I see his hand at work in the site you sent me to?) Myself, I have cast bronze and before computers, I was a painter. I used to paint on canvas, now I use the screen. I will make a note of the Festival and will try and view it while in Sao Paulo. Thanks. Here's a site I use; I am available as the webmaster at: www.digitalparser.com when this thread finishes. Roll over "profile" >click on "about us" and you will see an old painting of mine. We know about typography, my partner is an architect too but all his life he was a teacher in arts school and a very special artists, he did the firsts wrks with concrete poetry and tupography, do you concrete poetry? It is a beautiful concept! Really nice about your trip, keep in touch, in November will be in S?o Paulo de FILE 2004, International Festival of Eletronic Language, we will present to works, one you can see at http://www.OficinaDsG.com.br/Tempo, the other one is an interactive CD-ROM called S?o Paulo from Sky to the Ground. Best regards and thanks for your words! Take care! Jo?o Francisco Mariano
Dear Richard, Thanks for visiting The Time! This photographic work was made by me with my wife's and brother's help. South America is an interesting place, you will see that here! My partner has not online works, he was the old age before we met. He did a lot of paintings on important buildings in Brasil, things like that. He is a very important thinker, in the 70's, 80's, 90's all artists in all areas usually went to his house to discuss theirs works. In the 00's he is always invited to be a juri member on art projects. Mauricio was my teacher, we met last year and started to work together. The Time I made by myself, the 9/11 both of us, our ideas are very similar, this is the reason we worked together, I have 26, Mauricio 67, the age is not a wall. Now we are working on a new art project while we do our professional works! Soon we will show it. If you desire, send me your e-mail to me to put it on our mailing list. Mauricio has a very large painting work, he is painting when his time to, I always prefered photography. As soon as possible, we will put all of our work online, but you know, at these day we don't have time. A painter? Really nice! Working on it yet? Saw your work on DP. Nice! Best wishes! Jfmariano.
Richard, I forgot to write about it! Mauricio had a narrow relationship with the group Noigandres! Haroldo de Campos, Augusto de Campos e D?cio Pignatari were his closer friends and they worked together in some works. Mauricio knows them when he called Haroldo and said, I solved in images all the concepts of the concrete poetry. He had solved it. So, all the artists connected with this group worked with him. Noigandres group is a important part of the art. Regards!
Joao, My address is <rhoeper at earthlink.net> Yes, I would like to be on your emailing list. I have done some reading about concrete poetry at http://www.ubu.com/papers/solt/index.html ........very interesting concept. I think Flash (possibly with Director) is certainly a medium worth exploring with the idea of using interactivity and movement for creating works of art elevated (hopefully) above the commercial reality most of us have to survive in. And "The Time" is quite fascinating at using the juxtaposition of interactivity (I found my hand going back and forth, side to side viewing sequences) with the timing of the graphics. I enjoyed the photography as well because it also added the feeling of movement and intermingling of subjects and objects through the motion (or the feeling of the motion) in each photograph. Is there a randomness programmed into the code of displaying the images? I thought so, but I wasn't sure. Although time isn't random (at least we think not in present math), life certainly is. As a poem, "The Time" has achieved its objective of meaning that lasts beyond prose. Joao, Einstein said, "God does not play dice with the universe." And I add, "Except for humanity; he gave us the ability to pass through time and be unexpectedly kicked in the head." This has been an interesting conver (forumver-sation), Joao. With your help, I have a new understanding of concrete poetry. Yes, I did read the Brasil link and do have an appreciation for Mauricio's guidence. I came upon this theory as a young art student. In 1967, when I was just starting out, I liked Mondrian's work very much. In the library then, I found a reference to Mondrian and concrete poetry (maybe in a journal) which I followed up. I was always interested in a conceptual framework for my thinking, and it was interesting, but my work over the years has tended to be mostly traditional. At the personal moment, I am going through a reevaluation period, looking for some synthesis within the digital field, and it is interesting that I read your post and saw your work (with your wife and brother). I will frequent your The Time to better understand its process and navigation. It sticks in my mind. As I married a Literature Major, I have, over the years, been nudged in several literary directions, but this new aquantance with cp will have some affect on my work, I think. Thanks. This is simple - from a site I have been working on and will soon take live (the background is a painting of mine) - perhaps I am already struggling with approaching some solution: http://www.stupidpolitics.com/animation.php .. I sent an email to Oficiana, please keep in touch vie your email list or other means. Thanks, Richard
Dear Richard, Thanks for your e-mail. Excellent reading, I know this link, in Brasil link you can see all the guys I talked about in my last post. Thanks for visiting The Time, it is not a random project, in fact is very linear, the city and its 24 hours, perceptions, etc. 12 images that represent the 12 hours of day or night depend on the hour you chose, all of them have its registration time and the exposure time inside one hour, is like a musical compass, the fist point and the second one. But I liked you comment about random, could be another project about it! The navigation has a detail, on the back button, you stop the time like in photography and in the go button the time pass. I tried to simulate the photography act and intention. I'd like to say somenthing, I'm impressed with you knwolege about the concrete poetry, many people that work with art don't even know about, and this art period is very rich and very useful for all of us that work with digital language! Best regards! Jfmariano.
