macromedia flash sitedesign:
Hi

I've been struggling with this for quite some time now... If you have the
safari browser and a bit of time to spare, please take a look at:
http://www.positivenewmedia.co.uk/preview/safaritest/news.htm

Within the same paragraph do you see random lines of smooth text in amongst
lines of crisp text? - I think I've narrowed it down to lines which contain a '
or ". If you are also noticing this (even if you don't have a solution) please
just let me know.

I have found a way to address the problem but it entails adjusting the
appearance settings on the mac. ie on the end-users computer. (Not the ideal
solution). If anyone can think of a way that I could overcome this issue
(without instructing mac-users to adjust their appearance settings) , please
let me know - it will be most appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Thanks for the reply - I've double checked my textfields to see that their
co-ords are absolute - still not having any luck though. I can avoid the
problem by embedding the font outlines - effectively rendering ALL the type
smooth - but I was hoping for real crisp text . Will just have to keep at it...

Cheers, H.

Hi,

I use Safari 2.0.1 and there's effectively a small glitch on some lines.
I tested your page on Firefox and Camino and it looks fine. Usually,
this kind of problem resulted of the way Mac and Win handle graphics and
fonts. You should look the position of your elements. When you convert a
..FLA from Windows to Mac, sometimes the position of the different
elements are changed. Just make sure that every element don't have
decimal fraction (ie 10.0 instead of 10.1). With a fraction, the
rendering on Mac makes strange result.

Also, on all browsers I have tested, the 'n' from the news title is
truncated. For this problem, I guess you just have to move a little bit
this title on the right side.

Hope this helps,

Nicolas St-Laurent

Dear Humdrummer,
I see from your web page that the type tracking varies. The last section is
different from the two previous sections. The source of your problems may be in
the original creation of your artwork. If created entirely in Flash I cannot
understand why it should accur unless some text has been imported from
different sources. Given your design, I would create text in Illustrator or
Freehand and convert all type to outlines prior to importing it into Flash.
That way you can set the scale and tracking of your type to suit resolution
standards of 72dpi on your screen. With Helvetica or Arial, wider tracking is
better for on-screen resolution. Also scale is critical. A slightly larger
typesize may help.
