macromedia flash sitedesign:
I actually use Flash for all of my sites, then I pop the SWF file into a html page using DW. But I'm having problems getting my sites picked up by search engines. They want lots of text, incoming links, etc ... my titles, descriptions and meta tags in the DW page help a little, but not much. Does any body know if there's a feature in MX that will produce some form of text that search engine robots can read? I suppose I could add text to the html page, but FLASH creates such a nice, tidy layot... and I can embed my fonts and it ALWAYS looks spiff. THANKS for you help!!
check this out. design your heart's content in flash. set-up your html file and make that your building block. make the title of the page very detailed with as many keywords as you can. include a set of meta-tags with important keywords to search from. at the bottom of the html page. make a cell and type a description of your site with as many keywords as possible with links and a link to a sitemap. you should have no problem getting recognized. remember, google scores your site relevant to the active links to your site, so the more you get it out there, the more your site will rank higher.
You have just come across one of the key limitations to Flash. When it is used as a complete page, rather than a component, you will suffer in SE rankings. As jeff says, you might add some text elsewhere on the page. (Don't think making the color and the background the same, to make the text invisible, is a good idea. Most SEs will totally ignore the page if you do.)
Hers an Idea. Create text describing your site with as many keywords as possable. Make the text the same color as your backround. The search engines will read the text but your users will just see the backround!
