I know very little about flash but I have created a movie using a series of
photo jpgs. They run for 30 seconds each and I would like for them to fade out
rather than abruptly switch from one to another. Help?

I am fairly new to flash myself, but i think if you convert your pics into
graphics, then create 2 points on your timeline, at the second point select
0% for alpha on the colour drop down in the properties window. Then create a
motion tween. do the reverse to fade in.

Probably a good time to learn a little about Flash then. The tutorials and
examples that come with the application are a good place to start, as are
the help files.

The simplest way is to embed each JPEG in a movie clip, and animate that
clip's _alpha property.

First convert your pictures to a Graphic Symbol ? F8 + select Graphic

Then create a key frame ahead of the current position of the graphic. This
distance will be the duration of the Fade.

Once you created this 2nd key frame select it.
Then double click on the graphic and in the window select Color Effect. From
the drop down window select Alpha. In the Alpha window enter zero. This will
make the picture in the 2nd key frame transparent.

Now all you have to do is to create a tween ? animation, between the first
frame, which displays the picture in its original form and the 2nd frame which
is transparent.

To create a tween double click on the first Key Frame, Select Tweening then
Motion and OK!

Play your movie and you see your picture fading out.

Procedure maybe slightly different depending on which version you?re using.
