macromedia flash sitedesign:
Hey, this site has existed for over a year yet it just occured to me now to post it in here. This is for a subject called Investigative Science Technology (IST). It was made by 2 of last years grade 11's. Be warned that i can get pretty laggy so just bear with it. Gimme your thoughts, i think its kinda cool .... http://www.slc.qld.edu.au/ist/index.html
I think it shows a lot of good use of Flash. It is quick, (a lot of people make it too slow = boring) nice movement, text coming in fast then slows but keep moving, very cool. The tunnel didn't work for me very well (I didn't like it), but the idea is cool. Over all, good job! BTW, it is the full screen mode that makes it bog down. Always a bad idea to go full screen. Much better for the designer to control the window size and therefore have at least come control over the smoothness. Taking up a lot of screen space along with fades and movement = bog. -- -- Regards, --Vern =========================== onClipEvent(doSomethingStupid){ setProperty("Face", color, #FF0000); _root.audio = "uh oh!"; }
cool, thanks guys for ur thoughts. i didnt think the tunnel was great either but the rest of the site works brilliantly with little moving mc's and stuff. Anyone else's ideas? Penny for your thoughts anyone?
All together a really good site. I do have a few negative comments and please, take these as constructive criticism. I couldn't find any audio controls, if you're going to have a sound track to a website at least have the option to turn it off. File size!!! Wow 485k as an initial load, take it from me that's big, I'd hope the whole site would be in there but no. After the 485k you get another whopping 697k for the intro, which atleast you can skip. Then another 150k for the first page. I know that this is just a school project but and important part of designing and building for the web is optimisation. Having looked at the site it's difficult to see where this size is. I would guess there's some tied up in the typeface and audio. Hope this helps. Jolyon PS. I like the tunnel, very Tron.
