macromedia flash sitedesign:
Hmm . . . I posted this in General, but maybe I'll get more of a response in here. Anybody that can help me will be loved forever, ok, maybe just thanked profusely. Here's my problem, sounds simple enough, but I'm still new: Ok, I've made a text field for a website, and I was wondering if there was a way to create a link within it that when selected would bring up another block of text inside the same field. Example in html: Click on a link in a browser window -> page cames up in the same browser window. Sorry, no too good with the Flash lingo yet and I want to try and make clear exactly what I'm asking. I'd appreciate any help anyone could give me,and thanks in advance!
hi mirandac, this sounds like a job where movie clips would come in handy. essentially, what you're going to want to do is: 1: put a movie clip called 'holder' on your stage. this 'holder' will serve as a container for a second movie clip, which you can call 'text1'. (you can think of the 'holder' movie clip as being analogous to what you referred to in your question as your 'text field'.) 2: create a movie clip called 'text1' which contains both text and an invisible button over the text, which when you click it, runs an attachMovie script that loads a second movie clip called 'text2' into the 'holder' clip. place the 'text1' movie clip inside 'holder'. using this method, you should be able to load any number of 'text#' movie clips into 'holder' by way of attachMovie scripts. a few months ago i was struggling to understand the basics of flash, but i found the flash forums here to be the #1 place to get advice, and to learn by reading other people's questions. anyway, once you get a grasp of how movie clips work, how to nest them, and how to load various things into them, you'll be able to do a lot more with flash. (there are other scripts which load image files and .swf files that are stored on your web server. using that technique can reduce the size of your flash file considerably and help things load faster.) macron.
Oh, thank you so much. It had been awhile and I wondering if it was even possible. I'll play around with that. Again, thank you so much! I'm very grateful, I'll be sure to come back if I have anymore questions.
