macromedia flash sitedesign: Hello,
does anyone know how to animate lines and shapes so that they appear as though they are drawing themselves?
would be very grateful for any feedback...

thanks

This won't help but one way you could do it is if the person is actually
scetching on their computer paint program. Using a tablet and pen. You
could capture it off the desktop with Fraps or any capture software. You'd
then have an .avi of it. Convert that to flash and clean it up.

My preferred way is the same as I used to make animated gif signatures
... draw the entire thing, then erase bits of it starting from the end.
This is the sequence..

1) Draw entire object on frame 1
2) Press F6 (copy to next frame)
3) Erase a little bit from the end
4) Jump to step 2 above until all bits are erased.

F6, erase, F6, erase over and over until the entire drawing is
erased.
Then, select all the frames and right click on them.. reverse frames.
Now the animation starts with an empty frame and gets drawn from
there.
You can also do it with a mask by putting the whole drawing on layer 1
and drawing a mask on the layer above it a bit at a time.

sometime you could have your drawing (or part of it) and have a mask
with a shpe tweening to cover your drawing progressively... it all
depends on the type of drawing, if you don't have any loops, this would
work fine.

I downloaded the trial of Fraps but i think it only captures games..
Using my tablet and video capturing software is probably going to be my best
bet. I have achieved the basics of what i wanted with the use of
'CaptureWizPro'. However, i will have to search for something a lot better as
there are a few flaws in the software.

Using masks and shape tweens worked well with drawings which weren't too
complex

Just having a bit of a brainwave; creating an object in flash or director,
applying an 'eraser' property to it, then animating it using a motion guide to
unveil the layer below ...

thank you all
