well, i would advise you to read design books or surf the web. I mean graphic
sites. There's a lot of flash sites out there. eg www.internettinyawards.com
If you like other people's design, this shows that their graphics inspire you
.. It means that you design sense belongs to this category. And don't wory,
there's nothing wrong about copying people's style. You will learn by copying
and modify things by your own way.
Hope it helps and good luck.

I agree with Smoking Gun. I am not a graphic artist and I am not a programmer.
Much of what I have done and how I learned was by looking at other sites: what
were their color schemes? how did they set up their navigation? how complex was
their code to accomplish what they did? what is about this site that I DON'T
like and why?

As I got more experience, I was able to start seeing things as second nature
that I hadn't seen before ("Oh, they're using CSS" or more frequently "They
REALLY need to use some CSS!") The great thing is that along the way, I found
a formatting style that I like and the little things became personal (like
naming conventions for files).

So don't worry about copying others, because you can't, really. It's like
taking a painting class and worrying about copying Picaso or Renior. And web
design is as much art as it is function.
