Actually, the example you've shown doesn't make use of alpha channels.
If you Google the term "wmode" on Macromedia (and elsewhere, I'm sure),
you'll find technotes on an attribute that does allow transparent
backgrounds on SWFs inside HTML documents -- but that isn't what's going on
in this artist's website.

The "trick" is simply that part of the artist's shoulder and body are
included in the SWF itself, while the rest of his body is comprised of
graphics embedded in the HTML document as usual. These "slices" of the
image are assembled to make it look as if his whole body lies over top the
SWF. To "break" the illusion, simply right click and use the Flash context
menu to zoom in.

Hello All,
I was interested in creating a site that would have part of the background
image cover part of the flash movie. The best example that I have come across
is the following site: www.michaeldonnellan.com/

Does anyone have experience with this sort of thing?

Hello,

I believe that there is no alpha to the background but instead he'd imported
an as the background in flash. He has that same image in the html but the full
picture. But in flash he had made just that piece that would make it look like
it is actually alpha because of the way I had just explained it. But I could be
wrong, because I don't see how the flash could be there then the HTML
background image can be ontop of the flash that was designed. Any further
explanation or questions contact me at jrbomani@bomanistudios.com or contact me
through http://www.bomanistudios.com/design/index.html at the bottom.

Sweet! Thanks guys. I am new to this; it would have taken me days to figure
that one out.

dreamx.0, your site looks absolutely incredible. I hope one day I can design
something half as good as that. GREAT JOB.
