I am quite new to Flash and particularly Flash 8. I imported my .mov videos to the Flash8 library using the Flash Video encoder. Everything worked fine when I tested it from my PC. Upon loading the final .swf, html and .flv files to the same folder on my server, I would end up with a blank screen and no video. If I roll my mouse over the area where the video should be and right click, I get an error message asking if I give permission for Flash to access my camera or something. Notes: All files loaded to the same subdirectory. Using Flash and Dreamweaver8. Checked in both Mozilla FF and IE6. No luck. And I do have the plugin for Flash 8. Question: is there some adjustment I should make to the HTML file generated by Flash 8? My research indicates something to do with a link to the .flv file but I am not sure how or why. So I just uploaded all three related files: swf, html and flv in the hopes something would work out. Is it a problem with my server (which plays Flash content no problem by the way).? Any ideas most welcome
A possible problem could be the settings of your server, concerning streaming data. FLV-video files are streaming data from you're server to the client. Some servers are configured not to allow streaming ...
The other issue could be the filepath of the actula flv you are thying todrag in. If you test locally and everything works fine then upload it it is most definately a filepath issue.
Thanks for the info. This could be the problem but if so, would it also NOT show other video formats - such as Quicktime or Real Player videos? I have loaded QT and RP movies onto my server and been able to view them without any problem? I have also managed to upload Flash files that do not contain movies and these show fine. I appreciate any advice as it is quite frustrating. Many thanks again
Thanks for the feedback. You raise a good point and one that checked at the outset but I am new so what may be obvious to me - may not necessarily by the case! I suppose I just need to be sure WHAT files I should have in the same folder (or subfolder) Do I need to include the .swf, .flv and htm files in the same folder - as they are on my computer. What is essential to be posted in order to view the video in Flash? Thanks
You may not MIME type set on your server for FLV files? You may need to contact your server administrator If you don't know how to add a MIME type . Mathias
