I can empathize; that's how it was for me when I first started!

Neither do I. :)

I've read quite a few books over the years and have gotten quite a bit
from reading the documentation that ships with Flash. Haven't taken any
classes, though.

Well, Flash is quite a bit different from HTML, that's for sure.

Actually, that's not really how these forums work. As a general rule of
thumb, questions are both asked and answered here publicly. The reason that
works out so well is that even onlookers, who may share may of your own
questions, have a chance to learn from the experience of others. Private
consultation is something different, and most people I know tend to charge
for that.
To get started ... heck, I'd say hit that trusty F1 key and start with
the documentation. In fact, there's a section entitled "Getting Started
with Flash" that should kick-start the whole thing for you. There are
sections that guide you if you have experience with other programming
languages or if you don't; if you're a web designer or if you aren't; if you
have a basic understaning of Flash but want to catch up; and so on.
Work through a good helping of that and do some experimentation. When
you come up with specific questions, be sure to post them to one of these
forums. If you can narrow down your questions, you'll find a handful of
helpful regulars here to answer as best they can.
