macromedia flash sitedesign: Today I made the background of my Flash Header for my website transparent.
After that my site became extremely slow (10-60 second response and can't do
anything else in the browser while your waiting). I know exactly what it is
that is causing the site to be so slow. It is when I use this html code to make
the background transparent when defining my flash object.
<param name="wmode" value="transparent">

I commented that line out and everything worked fast again. But I need the
background of the flash to be transparent so the page background will show
through. If I put the background inside flash then it looks terrible because it
doesn't fit in with the html main background. Has anyone else had this problem
before and know what to do about it or does anyone have any good ideas how to
solve this? Thank you.
Here is a link to my site http://www.furioussoftware.net

I have had this problem with the transparent background. But my site didn't
slow down at all!

So try this>

First, are you using IE to view your site? If so what version are you using?
If it's IE 6 update to IE 7 and that will take care of the transparent
background for you! but if any one using the old IE they are gona see the
background of the flash file!

Second, get hold of your host provider, you should never see lag of 10-60
seconds. So the folt could lie with them!!

Third, why not just keep the hole file html and make the rollOver buttons you
have in dreamweaver (i take it you made the home page in dreamweaver??) and
that should spped thing up for you.

Hit me back if you need any more help.

And remember to test your site on as many browsers as you can!

All the best,

satrop!

I tried it in both Firefox and IE 7, both of them will load the page when you
go to it. But when you click a link is when it starts loading slow/freezing. I
didn't use Dreamweaver to make my page, I wrote it by hand. Rollover buttons
aren't good enough though for what I'm doing because I am going to add more
video effects to my flash header. I just used the html background in my flash
header for now while I try to figure this out (it looks terrible). I think that
"wmode" is just still buggy. Doing some research I found that when you use
"wmode" and have video in your flash then it causes serious performance issues.
It looks like Adobe just doesn't have a solution to this problem and doesn't
care because this lack of ability to make the background transparent in Flash
has been going on for years and I guess it is still not fixed. The "wmode"
feature isn't even an Flash feature, its something that the web browser
companies came up with. So I am going to have to redesign my layout now and
settle for something less than what I wanted just because Adobe doesn't care to
find a solution to a problem that lots of people have been having for years.
Thanks Adobe.:mad;

[quoted text, click to view]
to a different color, because you cant read it >at >all.

I changed the entire color scheme of the site this weekend along with a lot
of other things. I haven't done much with the content layout yet. Thank you
for pointing that out. I made it easier to read now. :embarrassment;
