For my app I load data from several text files.

In a real world situation my app would download the text files from a server.

I was wondering, for the purpose of the contest will I be able to put the text
files in the same folder as the swf files?

Yes, you will. Insert the right path in loadVariable.

You can also create a file.sis so that the swf is installed with the file.txt
in a common folder of you phone.
Don't forget that for the contest you have to provide all files necessary for
the correct functioning of your application.
So remember your file.txt. ;-)
