macromedia players flash : Flash + Firefox 1.0 broken

Just installed FireFox 1.0 on Windows 2003 Server. No flash enabled sites
appear to work - including Macromedia's own homepage - tells me I may be
'missing some components' to view the site correctly. In FireFox's
about:plugins, I see the Flash player and 'swf' as enabled. Is there a fix?

I'm having a problem, too. As well as no sound, Flash movies freeze up after
the first couple of frames. This is happening in Firefox, Netscape and Internet
Explorer . I'm running Windows 2K and NVIDIA nForce Audio as my only sound
device.

If you want to restrict the applications you have available, go for Linux.
Most development happens where the market is,which is Windows followed by
Mac. Commercial products tend to lag behind on Linux. That is mostly
because
a) Linux is a small market
b) Linux is open source and its users tend not to want to pay for software
that doesn't come free and/or open source.

Linux may be 'better' on some grounds, but for range of software, it will
continue to lag behind for some time yet.

What "next big thing" .. Firefox is a LONG WAY off being a big thing. Its
nowhere near even a tenth of the market share of IE. It is growing,
certainly, but that's like looking at an ant growing and saying its going to
be as big as an elephant.

Since when did this request for help turn into a Linux vs Windows flame war.

I haven't flamed anyone, thanks. Just responding to the juvenile post
"Windows sucks. Use linux." .. what an informed and helpful comment that
was.

BTW: I've read elsewhere that getting the uninstall utility for flash player
and running that and THEN reinstalling can help.

Paul..

I use FireFox with Flash every day. Works fine. Whatever this is, it's
unique to your system.

There isn't too much that can go wrong with the Flash Player plugin
(that's used by FireFox, Mozilla and Netscape....)

First, make sure you've done ALL the research you can based on
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flashplayer. There are
troubleshooting technotes there to help you. Maybe this is just a popup
blocker problem...
