macromedia players flash : How can I turn off Flash Player

Seeming as now XP SP2 blocks most pop ups, Flash ads are everywhere.

Are they the main source of revenue for macromedia? The advertisers?

Because now there are so many flash ads that you can't turn off. At all.
They used to include a close button, but no more.

Why can't macromedia include an option for you to be able to turn off flash
easily. Or have the default setting as off, if a flash advert/movie wants to
play, you have to click on it to activate it.

It'd save a lot of annoyance and gain macromedia some kudos. But it might
lose them some money from the ad spammers.

Flash gets no money from popup ads that happen to include Flash movies.

Flash Player cannot tell the difference between a popup ad and an important
animation or movie .. so there is nothing MM can do about it.

A popup using flash it not really any different to any other popup ad .. and
just like any other popup, it is really up to third party tools or the
browser itself to stop or restrict popups. Not really something that Flash
Player can (or should) do anything about.

Well, it would be great if browsers instead of automatically playing flash
videos would require you to click on the thing.

Or if the flash player could have that feature instead.

And don't you think that a lot of macromedia flash's revenue is generated by
advertisers purchasing their software to create annoying ads?

One would hope those that happen to use flash for ads paid for the product.
But MM does not receive any money from pop up ads directly. Its like
suggesting that Ford has a vested interest in from people running their cars
into shop windows to steal.

you never answer why there cannot be an option to turn it on or off
such as the user must click to open the flash

i can see no buisness reason why this cannot be done, unless Adobe is getting
revenue from them

Install FlashPlayer when needed and directly deinstall afterward - that's what
I did up to now.

But I found a maybe better solution: http://flashblock.mozdev.org/
(http://downloads.mozdev.org/flashblock/flashblock-1.5.1.xpi)

The description from the Mozilla-site:
[Q]Flashblock is an extension for the Mozilla, Firefox, and Netscape browsers
that takes a pessimistic approach to dealing with Macromedia Flash content on a
webpage and blocks ALL Flash content from loading. [..]
The "Allow Flash from this site" menu item is now a on/off toggle[/Q]

Sounds perfectly comfortable!
