macromedia players flash : Flash 8 security, mms.cfg

Hi,

I have created a file mms.cfg in the following location:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\Flash\

The file contains the line:
LegacyDomainMatching=1
which I believe allows content published pre Flash 8 to execute
without the restrictions of the Flash 8 player.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem to be working for me. Any help
would be greatly appreciated.

Also, is there any way of modifying the security settings for local
content if no internet connection is available on the client machine?

Finally, Internet Explorer doesn't seem to display a warning for
content that breaches the Flash 8 player security settings whereas
Firefox does. Can someone please tell me if this is an IE problem
or a Flash player problem?

Thanks!

Vince

OK, I can now modify my security settings without having to go through the
Macromedia site
by using a Shared Object editor.

Does anyone have any ideas about mms.cfg and the Internet Explorer problem?

Cheers!

Vince

I have the same problem. Trying to plug the security hole in the Flash Player.
I created a MMS.CFG file copied it to the C:\WINNT\system32\Macromed\Flash
directory, and according to the documentation:
"The settings in the mms.cfg file takes precedence over settings otherwise
stored in a local shared object."

However in my testing the client is still prompted for settings.? For Example,
AutoUpdateLock=[0, 1] (0 = false, 1 = true)
If this is set to 1, Flash Player does not allow the user to modify the
auto-update frequency. If this is set to 0, the Settings dialog box is honored.

I have also tried to get the mms.cfg to work and as others I have failed. Below
are a quote from Macromedias documentation (flash_player_8_security.pdf)
Macromedia Security Configuration file
The primary purpose for the Macromedia Security Configuration file (mms.cfg)
is to support the corporate and enterprise environments where the IT department
would like to install Flash Player across the enterprise, while enforcing some
common global security and privacy settings (supported with installation-time
configuration choices). On operating systems that support the concept of user
security levels, the file is flagged as requiring system administrator (or
root) permissions to modify or delete it. On Mac OS X systems using mms.cfg,
the security configuration file is located at /Library/Application
Support/Macromedia/mms.cfg. On Microsoft Windows, the file is located in the
Macromedia Flash Player folder within the system directory (for example,
C:\winnt\system32\macromed\flash\mms.cfg on a default Windows XP installation).

I have also tried to put the file in the system32 with no change and I have
searched the net for a solution but everywhere people have the same problem. Do
anyone have a solution?
