macromedia players flash : embeded Flash completely missing from webpages

I am unable to view any embeded flash content in either Firefox 1.0.7 or IE 6.

I have flash player 8 installed, and have tested that it is installed by
viewing the macromedia"about" page, where I see the message "flashplayer
version 8 installed". Flash adverts still work, and the occasional flash movie
will load, but the majority of flash content is completely missing in webpages.
For example in http://www.miniclip.com/sudoku/sudoku.htm i just see the
animating flash adverts and no game.

When I view the source for a webpage that is supposed to have flash, the flash
is completely missing from the HTML. As a result, I dont see any content. Im
guessing that both browers are igoring flash becuase of the 'embded' but i cant
figure out why.

I have tried uninstalling the player and re-installing with a previous version
(7), but this hasn't fixed the problem. I still cant view any flash.

N.B: This is NOT a firefox specific problem (i.e problem relating to adblock
or any other extension) becuase I have the same problem in IE.

Please can somebody suggest what is causing both browsers to ignore the flash
and how I can fix it.

many thanks:(
