Flash 8 display problems

macromedia players flash:
We recenly started tested a 100% Flash-based application we have developed
using the Flash 8 player, and are running into many concerning display problems
that we have never encountered before in Flash 7.

What is happening is that many places in the application the text and/or
graphics are coming up partially blank, almost as if an extra transparent layer
was covering them up.

See the following two images for examples of this:

First, an example of one page in the app running in a browser using the Flash
player 7:

http://wisdomtools.com/public_files/Flash_8_example.png

Note that the text in the "WHYs Insight" text box is partially
missing/cut-off. We see silimar problems all throughout the application when
running in Flash 8, but do NOT see this in Flash 7. In cases where the text is
"mousable" and can be interacted with (roll-overs, etc.) the act of mousing
over the problem areas causes the missing text to appear. In case like the
examples shown above, the missing text will never appear no matter what the
user does.

This is either one of two things most likekly:

1) Some sort of bug in Flash 8
2) Something we are doing wrong in our Flash code that is problematic only in
Flash 8

Has anyone seen anything like this? It is a showstopper for us doing any
develoment with Flash 8 until we figure this out.

thanks!

-Brian

We encountered the same problem. Since we couldn't find a solution on the
internet, we just resorted to trial and error. Eventually, here's what worked
for us:

Drag a new instance of a ScrollPane component to the stage, on the same layer
where the original scrollpane is (the one where the text gets cut off).
From the parameters tab, enter the same instance name and assign the same
scrollContent as the original scrollpane.
Optional(?): I also added a mask on top of both scrollpanes because the text
was bleeding outside the bounding borders of the original scrollpane.

I don't understand how that fixes the bug in Flash Player 8, but it does. This
works in both Flash Player 7 and Flash Player 8.

It's funny because I was trying something else when I lucked out on that
discovery accidentally. Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! That is a weird fix, but if it works it's cool by me! Macromedia, are you reading this thread? Looks like a bug here.

I am having a similar problem. Rather than chunks being cut out of the text as
in your problem, whole layers aren't even being shown. Only 2 out of my ~20
layers show up. This happens only in FP8 as well. Is anyone else out there
experiencing this?
