macromedia players flash:
I'm just getting to the end of a site for the company I work for. I didn't
realize that there are some features Flash 8 offers that are not supported in
earlier Flash Players. I was under the impression that 6 and up will run
pretty much anything I were to do. However, I just realeased a beta of the
site to some of the higher ups and there are things on the site that they cant
see unless they were to install FlashPlayer 8. This is not making some of them
happy because they do not want a disclaimer that a potential customer will have
to go through any amount of steps to download player 8 themselves. I tried
publishing to Player 7 but then i lose other features such as the component
reskinning or the text effects. Is it possible to imbed player 8 for web
similar to how a projector or an exe imbeds it or CDROM? I'd like to stay away
from the Flash Player detection kit if at all possible, because that will still
create more steps for the customer or site user ( which I dont see a problem
with because they are eventually going to have to cross this Flash 8 brige
anyways, but Its not my call). Your assistance will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

No .. nothing like that that you can do.

If you want to use new features of Flash 8 .. you need to publish for Flash
8 and use Flash Player 8.

If you had wanted something playable for Flash 6, you should have exported
for Flash Player 6 and not used features that require Flash Player 8.

All you can do is either get your clients to accept something that requires
Flash Player 8 .. or redesign/reimplement it so it only uses Flash 6 (or
whatever ) features.
