macromedia players flash : Flash Player 8: Cannot load SWF from non-local URLs from local paths

We have an application hosted on a central server. The Flash content is
distributed to branch offices and called from the central server with the
following path: file://C:/Browser/Content/smartassist/media/' where
name='smartass.guidestep.url.

Any thoughts? Is there a workaround?

Many thanks!

This is due to Flash Player 8's new Local File Security Feature. You can read
more about it here:
http://www.macromedia.com/devnet/flash/articles/fplayer8_security.html

More specifically your answer is found in the bullet below:
Loading restrictions: SWF and HTML content from non-local URLs may no longer
load any content (SWF, HTML, PNG, and so on) from local paths.

I assume that this loading restriction would prevent a Player from loading a
local (client) SWF? For example,

<param name="movie" value="C:\myDir\myMedia.swf"> called from
http://www.someaddress.com/loadSWF.htm

This restriction could be a disaster to many organizations -- particularly
educational organizations that distribute learning content with Flash media.
For many learning applications, connections to the app server is necessary for
directing, tracking, and recording user activity, while learning content may be
referenced locally.

If a trust setting doesn't work, is there anything that can be done with the
media when it is published that would allow such content to be loaded from a
non-local URL?

Thanks!
