I've tried this several times on my Win XP computer. When I run the
flash_player_installer.exe, it shows progress for a couple of seconds, then it
disappears without a trace, but continues running as a process.

Regardless of whether I let it run or end it, Opera 8.5 crashes upon trying to
view any flash file from that moment and until I actually re-install Opera.

IE, on the other hand, seems to be fine, and it displays that flash player 8
is installed even after I've uninstalled it from the control panel.

Did you found solution? I'm having same troubles. I need Flash7 to
test some software.
