Is it really worth it? Just look at the Linux/firefox flash plugins. It
won't work for many pages. Of course it is not important to have Linux support
from a market poit of view. However, it is a sure sign of technology that
doesn't follow any reasonably open standards. It is everything the web should
not be. You might as well write your pages in PowerPoint.

You still have to have Java support installed to run Java applets and
Java is heavier to run.....

Java is also able to do animation/media/interaction. It isn't necesarily as
easy to program as Flash, however it is very capable, and it works on all
platforms, including 64bit linux and 64 bit windows.

Flash is the most prolific and widespread 'standard' on the web for
animation/media/interaction. Unless you just want plain static text, Flash
format is probably the best choice.

:( Those are correct stats but what good is Flash Player if you cannot use it
nor get support from Adobe? We are obliged to use it, as most companies do so
for their product depictions, but are at the mercy of the porduct creators if
it cannot be used. I spent three days uninstalling/installing Flash Player 8
on my Windows XP computer (using IE 6.0) and only get it to work for a mere
second. When contacting Macromedia Flash Player Support I got a good generic
response but was unable to reply to their automated response because my Yahoo
mail was unable to deliver my email to their their email address
(support@macromedia.com). It was shown as a "Permanent Error". So where does
that leave me?

Flash is ahead of acrobat, java and windows media player.

if a flashplayer download doesn´t work, that´s most probably an os problem
(xp!!!), not flash problem.
and you CAN produce flash clip in a way so it runs on any platform.
and java applets are far from running on any machine, depending on version
and os (mac osx!!!).
so still, flash is the best choice. it´s just that producers don´t take the
time to work around bugs that could easily be avoided.
