hello! I'm having REAL problems with flash player. I'm a designer and i do use
flash mx to create content, but this problem occurs when i'm browsing the web
and with standalone flash player. i visit a website with a flash component on
and i get no sound - also if i open a .swf file it plays in the standalone
player but also with no sound! i have removed and reinstalled flash player
plugins and also the standalone player and reinstalled the fp7 plugin for IE.
no effect. i also installed flash player 7 for firefox 1.0 and still the same
- no sound! sound works in every other application including games! also,
because i've removed player that came with flash mx, it never got reinstalled..
do i need to uninstall and reinstall Flash MX to get my player back!? but more
importantly - how can i get sound working? hope someone can help!

There have been several cases of this lately. But not all with a common
cause.

I believe we're waiting for Engineering to give us more info at this
time. But I did solve it for one customer (see this thread):

<http://groups-beta.google.com/group/macromedia.players.flash/browse_thread/thread/7a7b5d3623bcefef/79c28cbc2feb481c?q=Wolfe+sound+player+group:*flash*&_done=%2Fgroups%3Fq%3DWolfe+sound+player+group:*flash*%26start%3D0%26scoring%3Dd%26num%3D10%26hl%3Den%26ie%3DUTF-8%26lr%3D%26as_drrb%3Dq%26as_qdr%3D%26as_mind%3D1%26as_minm%3D1%26as_miny%3D1981%26as_maxd%3D21%26as_maxm%3D1%26as_maxy%3D2005%26safe%3Doff%26&_doneTitle=Back+to+Search&&d#79c28cbc2feb481c>

So you have no sound in the activeX control, standalone player, and in
the plugin. All of which are -separate- players. So whatever is causing
this is not inside the player, it's some subsystem the player is using.

Check what I wrote in the thread above and post back.

Note: Do =no= reinstall Flash MX. That isn't going to help...

well i'm on win xp pro - and gfullmer is redhat linux, so it's obviously not OS dependent.

I've had a similar problem in Windows 98se. I found that there is some relation
to the sound card being used. Older Sound Blaster cards seem to exhibit this
problem, but a Sound Blaster Live! does not. I've tried everything to get the
older cards to play sound in Flash, but have not found the magic bullet yet.

I've installed a fresh copy of windows 98se, tried different processor speeds,
and different sound cards. I found the newest card I have available, the Sound
Blaster Live! is the only one that will play Flash files in my Director
application that I've trying to get to work. They do work in Firefox with the
latest Flash Player installed. I've then updated Direct X and all the windows
updates and there was no change. I only have this problem in Windows 98, not in
XP or 2000.

Any ideas? It seems to be something in Flash that talks to the hardware, but
doesn't work all the time.

Help! This happened to me as well, only on a Mac.

I'm running OS X 10.4.2, and very suddenly, Flash Player has stopped playing
the sound. This includes content on the internet and on my computer (where I am
trying to work on a flash website!). All my other media players are
functioning, just not Flash Player.

Any ideas? Is there a way to install an older version of Flash Player, one
that works?

I want to bump this back up. I still am unable to find a remedy for this. I use
over 6 different computers with flash but only my computer here at home is
having this bug. I've noticed also that in my sounds and audio devices in my
control panel, under the sounds tab. I am unable to preview the sounds. The
play button is greyed out. Yet if I browse to the actual sound file I can play
it fine in WMP. Please please please help. I've been dreading the all awful
system format to try and get things working again.

Has anyone ever found a solution to this? Because i have the same problem and
this problem is VERY huge to me because a lot of stuff I do depends on Flash
and sound is certainly necessary for it! Please?

This solution just worked for me in WinXP;

Control Panel -> Sounds and Audio Devices -> Audio

Make sure the default device for sound playback is your soundcard, and
not modem #0 line playback or something similar.

Thats it!

I think this problem stems from installing the sound card drivers after
the modem drivers, windows defaulted to playing sound events through
the modem.

I am also never able to hear the audio in Flash content in the player on my new
iMac G5 running OS 10.4.2.

I also have Flash MX installed on my computer, which I upgraded about 2 years
ago to Flash MX 2004 Professional. I ported all of my apps over from the G4 I
had then to this G5 I bought in July of 2005.

This is a bit vexing as a guy trying to develop Flash animations with audio.

Is anyone else having the same trouble? Or, better yet, any solutions?

My soundcard works perfectly with everything EXCEPT flash movie sound. NO SOUND. Macromedia is slow to remedy this problem, which is NOT a soundcard problem.

I'm having the exact same problem. Flash Player used to work just fine, I
bought a new motherboard and cpu and reinstalled Windows XP Pro, then the
problem started. I can watch all kinds of videos with sound. But only Flash
videos has no sound. My system setups are ECS nForce3-A motherboard, Sempron
3100 CPU, 1 GB of Ram, PNY FX5500 video card, onboard sound card. Did anyone
ever figured out a solution to this? Thanks.

Ok, I figured out what's wrong now. I have to set the default device to Realtek
audio (it was set to modem #0). But even before I set it to Realtek audio the
sound works for all other media files. Well, thanks for the replies.

I had the same problem (Windows xp user)

Flash sound used to work fine but suddenly stopped working. All other video
sounds continued working.
After spending hours searching for a solution (which I never found) I did a
system restore to a day when it was still working. That solved the problem for
me.

You can find the "system restore" utility here, good luck:

I'm having the same problem on nearly 70 computers. Everyone is trying to do
training on FORD's corporate website and aren't getting any sound.

It seems like flash player is taking over the sound drivers.... Symptoms
are...at bootup sound works fine as usual, as soon as a webpage with flash
video is opened via the web, all sound stops working, including the 'ding' when
adjusting the volume through windows. To reactivate 'system sound' I open ms
media player and play something...and it plays and sounds ok. On some machines
the 'ding' when adjusting the volume through windows doesn't return.... on some
it does.

This does not however restore volume to the flash player or video playing in a
flash website.

How can we backup to the previous version of flash so business can continue?
Ford is having a field day with this one...their support team is hating life
right now :)

Thanks

Is there an solution yet for the "no sound in flash" for windows xp/ explorer
& mozilla? I really need this to work.

Finally !!!!!! And so simple.....

It was Registry problem.... caused by clean-up with Spayware Doctor.
Nothing to do with hardware.
So if Flash sound AND System sounds don't work here is the solution....

Get K-Lite Codec Pack 2.69 Standard
h**p://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Codec_Pack.htm

Install Package and then go to

**/K-Lite Codec Pack/Configuration/ and Run "Codec Tweak Tool"
tick "Fixes / [ Registry ] Fix Non-working system sound "
Run tool...

AND ..... system sounds are back and Flash sound is back......

Well, I am having similar issue too, none flash related sound will be played

divx codecs (which I have already removed) and Ms AntiSpyware...Everything else
is as usually, and usually it worked.
K-Lite didn't help. :(

THANK YOU! The K-Lite install fixed my problem. However, I had to follow the
EXACT steps. The first time I ran the "Code Tweak Tool" I selected ALL the
different options. That didn't fix the problem. The second time I ran it I only
chose Registry ] Fix Non-working system sound " and the flash sound was back!
Thanks again!

Does anyone know the registry key to change or another rmethod besides
installing K-Lite? I believe that codec pack has a bunch of codecs that will
show advertisements in the middle of watching videos, rendered from the 'free'
codecs.

Somebody who already installed it: can you look at the shortcut to Fix
Non-working system sound and cut and paste the .reg file text it might link to?
(just guessing here) Thank you.

The strange thing is, when I turn my speakers up full volume, I can hear VERY
faint sound. I am thinking it may be just be something simple.

Any ideas?

Hi guys,

No worries, I believe it is a bug in flash player, your system is just fine

we have this problem with 24 PCs!

Now, we have no audio on the flash applications and flash sites, the videos
are just fine, but no audios. What could be a problem?

Is there any problem with your flash application?

Some of them have an Asus Motherboard, the motherboard is P4P800 SE. We
upgrade BIOS and also contact them (Asus Tech support) regard to problem. It is
all perfect.

We reinstall Windows XP and upgraded to SP2 with all updates. And Direct X
upgrades.

We have checked all IE plug-ins and Audio drivers on control panel.
The motherboard audio is the 6-channel AD1985 audio CODEC (SoundMAX), we have
reinstalled the driver few times, and contact AUAS for it, every things perfect.

We removed and Re-installed windows audio drivers separately. It is all good.
But not helping to get the audio on flash sites back!
We Checked Sounds card and audio in control panel, it was fine!

Remove and reinstall flash player few times. Not useful at all!
We have Checked all manage add-ons in IE to make sure they are enable, it is
all good too.

Uninstall and reinstall Audio drivers, reinstall and check Windows XP audio
drivers, windows media application works just fine.

Im on Windows XP SP2 fully patched, and i cant get audio in flash too... Since
its last update i think... I can play sound with other apps such as WMP10, and
other misc stuff... But any flash related sound doesnt work. Ive tried the
codec fix but that was not a fixer..

Any suggestions? Why isnt Adobe trying to fix this? This is getting rather
ridiculous..

Has anyone tested the beta Flash Player 9 on one of your machines that is not
playing audio with the Flash Player 8.

If you decide to test Flash Player 9, first remove all current Flash Players
from your system using the latest Flash Player uninstaller (3.0.0.17) from here:

<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge
href="http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157">http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157</a>

Next, you can download the Flash Player 9 Beta here:
<a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge
href="http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs">http://www.adob
e.com/cfusion/entitlement/index.cfm?e=labs</a>

Check your folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash you should have a
'Flash9a.ocx' file. If you see 'Flash.ocx', 'Flash8a.ocx' or Flash.8b.ocx'
the uninstaller 3.0.0.17 did not remove the files. If that is the case, I
would recommend reinstalling the version that was not removed, reboot and then
run the Uninstaller again.
