Folks..

As you may have seen Support is researching a problem in the ActiveX
version of Flash player appears to install into Internet Explorer, but
when the Flash test page (http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/welcome)
is viewed or another Flash site is viewed nothing appears where the
Flash content should be.

There are numerous causes for this problem, and many people have been
able to solve it by using the methods describe at
http://www.macromedia.com/support/flashplayer/ (removing killbit,
turning off pop up blockers such as the one built into ie or popupcop...

I've written about this quite a bit in this thread:
<http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=184&threadid=911427&STARTPAGE=2&enterthread=y#3450444>

But for some people none of those things work. It's THOSE people that
I'm speaking to in this message. And ONLY those people.

------------------------------------------------------------------------
To determine if you're one of the people who might be able to help us,
do this test:

First, run the Flash Player uninstaller for Windows from
http://www.macromedia.com/go/tn_14157

Next do EXACTLY THIS:
1. Make sure you have ADMIN privileges to the machine
2. Search your machine for the file "flash.ocx"
3. copy or write down the full path to this file. It -should- be
C:/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash/Flash.ocx
If the file is NOT in that folder, copy it into that folder. Make sure
there are NO other .ocx files in that folder. If there is an
'swflash.ocx' delete it.
4. Choose Start> Run
5. In the run dialog, type or paste exactly this line. :
RegSvr32 C:/Windows/System32/Macromed/Flash/Flash.ocx

IF YOU RECEVIEVE THIS ERROR YOU ARE A CANDIDATE TO HELP US:
Dll RegisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx failed.
Return code was : Ox80020009

IF YOU RECEIVE AN ERROR RUNNING THE MSI VERSION OF THE FLASH INSTALLER
YOU ARE ALSO A CANDIDATE. If you run the msi installer and receive this
error you can help us:
c:\windows\system32\macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx failed to reg.
HRESULT – 2147352567

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE EITHER OF THOSE ERRORS... then please do NOT reply
to this post. Continue to troubleshoot using /support/flashplayer (99.9
% of the people who do not receive the above two errors are able to
resolve the problem by removing killbit, disabling popup blockers and
other steps that are already in technotes..

------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you were able to recreate the above errors AND you'd be willing to
ship us your PC for testing, reply to this post with your email address
and "YES".

Please reply to the post. Do not private mail me because I will not be
able to respond.

If you have the problem but cannot or would not be interested in
providing us with your PC for testing please don't reply. We are aware
of the problem and are trying to solve it, but cannot reproduce it in
house.

This posting is a year old, but I am getting this error today on a home pc.

Dll RegisterServer in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash\Flash.ocx failed.
Return code was : Ox80020009

Was there a solution found? I wasn't able to find responses after 2/26/2005.

Thanks

Well, I had this error come up on a freshly installed PC. I mean, I just got
things installed on it and went to install QuickBooks. When I did this it kept
giving me the Flash 7 could not be registered problem. Looking in the registry
helped me to figure out what to do but hasn't given me a real solid answer. I
am functional now, but I think there is something wrong still.

So, here's what I did.... I opened the registry and went to the
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT leaf and found the ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.7 registry
key. Looked at permissions and found a corrupt user name in the list of groups
and users with permissions on this key. I don't think this will help because
SID's across computers don't really match, but the invalid SID in my key here
is S-1-5-21-378286172-2077070062-342480833-1003.

Now, when I tried to delete that user I got an error message stating that I
can't remove the user because this key's permissions are inherited from the
parent key. Ok, so I looked at the parent key named "*". It didn't have that
invalid user in the permissions list. So, looking at the other
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.X keys, there wasn't this invalid user either. I
made an assumption that the installer was trying to create my domain account as
a user in this list but somehow the install when awry so I went ahead and added
my domain user account to the list of users with Full Control and bammo it
worked. I didn't need to reboot, or uninstall anything.

So after trying everything else previously I saw that my flash.ocx file was indeed in a different folder. I copied it to the folder you specified and noticed that folder also has a flash9F.ocx. I tried deleting and/or renaming it but I get an access denied error message. When I type that line you mentioned into RUN I get a failed message with a return code of: 0x8002801C
We are in 2008 so I wonder if a solution had been found. I've been waisting many days trying to deal with this flash problem.
If there is a solution, can you please post it?
Thanks!
