macromedia players flash : Flash Player Installation

Whenever I attempt to download the Flashplayer plugin and run the install
instructions I always get the following error FlashPlayer is incompatable with
your architecture (x86_64). I am currently running FC 3 x86_64. What is the
problem with the install??

That's 64 bit linux, right?

The problem then is that you need to run the 32-bit version of
Netscape/Mozilla (to install the 32-bit browser plugin).

I disagree. The problem is that Macromedia has not yet released a 64-bit
version of the plugin.

very true sedhd.
For info - although presumably unsupported, it is possible to:
a) install the 32 bit Flashplayer on 64 bit linux by editing the install
script so that the uname-m check is ignored or just pretends it is i386 rather
than x86-64.
b) downgrade to the 32 bit version of your browser if it won't integrate with
the 64 bit version (e.g. as with Firefox).
Hardly ideal though I'd agree. Come on Macromedia - can't be very hard to
compile up a 64 bit version surely?!

:Q Just tried it on Windows XP Professional x64 Edition....The installer runs
fine on the 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, but the player never seems to
actually install. Although, the player works perfectly with the 32-bit
version of I.E. when the installer is run thru that version.

If you want your feedback heard by macromedia personnel you'll have to post it here:

It's a real shame but possibly macromedia doesn't employ programmers that are
qualified to code for for x86_64, or else maybe they are cowed into submission
by the great evil MS empire. I used to believe them when they spouted out crap
like "not a big enough market", etc-- but the Linux market is plenty big
nowadays, has a strong user base, and is growing like a weed. So who knows,
whatever the reason is, they have been pretty pin-headed in the past about
getting off their butts and porting products to new platforms. So I wouldn't
hold my breath.

There is no 64-bit version of the Flash Player. If this is a player that you
would like to see then you should add this through the Wish List. The link is
below:
