macromedia players flash:
I have been trying (on and off) for several weeks to install the free version
of Flash player. Control panel lists "adobe flash player 9, active X" as being
installed. But when I try to open nay related topic such as Videio highlights
on MS homepage, I am notified that the site want to download Macromedia Flash
player 9. I click on the bar that says I want to install it, and it warns
about dangers of Active X; I accept the dangers and am asked if I want to
install macromedia Flash plpayer; I say yes and there is a short delay.
I never see the "Movie above", or the "Text below" indicating a successful
injstallation, and, sure enough it doesn't work.
The next time I try to open a video highlight, I am again informed that the
site wants to install etc..
I have downloaded and used the latest uninstall from adobe and it is removed
from the listed programs. each install attempt rstroes it in listed programs.
I''ve followed completely (I think) all Adobe instructions as to security
settings - even set security to "low' in IE; also disabled my Zone Alarm
Interntet security program.
During all my installation trials, I have never gotten an error message
lately, when I try to open a video highlight, and I click on the message about
wanting to load the program, nothing happens - just returns to the screen with
the mesage about wanting to load flashplayer
Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks

AS you can tell the FlashPlayer ( FP) install etc has been a very long and
arduous topic here in the FP Adobe Forums. The support and tech notes that
Adobe offers are a dog chasing its tail, around and round and around. Refer to
this note, refer to that note, Warning this, warning that. I have followed the
proscribed instructions to the letter. Change/deleted registry, deleted FP,
added FP, waited for hours to see if change/DL is done. Restored registry,
delete FP, reinstalled, change security setting, etc.. ALL to no avail. Adobe
has no stake in fixing this at all as its FP is the 800# gorilla of its type of
application as it is free and indusrty dominant. If it does not work for a
minority of us common folk, so what. 99.9% still may have no issue. I have
tried with IE and Netscape on my XP Home system. No fix has worked as regaled
in this forum or by the Adobe tech support pages. I am not a pro but not afraid
to work with the regisrty as Adobe suggests MIGHT work. Even older versions
will not load. Dell cannot help as they are stumped too. They have suggested a
complete OS reinstall MAY help but they cannot of course promised it will. I
too have sent to Adobe about all this..no reply or action is there SOP on this
issue.

Thanks, Reproman66 - No wonder i've had no luck. I sure won;t waste any more
time on it
Guess I'll just wait until I have to reinstall the OS and see if that does any
good
Maybe adobe is waiting until flash is so predominant that they'll be able to
sell it to us poor souls who can't get the free version to perform
