Cannot install Flash Player 9 w/ win98se

Cannot install Flash Player 9 w/ win98se GS3

macromedia players flash: I reinstalled win98se in my secondary machine and I need to install Flash
Player. I go to the download-install page and it seems to download (I can see
the network traffic) but not to install. I have tried everything but still no
success. I cannot find a downloadable installer program so I am stuck with
clicking on that page and nothing happening.

I will appreciate any help with this problem.

I have been readingthis thread "continuous download of Flash Player"
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=44&catid=18
4&threadid=1165901&enterthread=y which seems like a similar problem. I will
note:

- As I said, the program seems to download but does not install the latest
version of Flash Player.
- I am using WIN98SE and IE6
- I am also using the same WIN98SE and IE6 in my laptop and this problem does
not show up there.
- I do not have RealPlayer or Quicktime installed anywhere (I hate them!)

I just thought of one more problem I am having on the same machine and which is
very similar and probably related.

I try to play a video clip with the old Media Player and the player says
"finding site activex.microsoft.com". It then downloads a codec but then
displays the message " your security settings do not allow the new decompressor
to be installaed. To fix set the browser's security settings for the Internet
Zone to medium or lower". The problem is that the setting ARE set to medium or
lower but it still does not work.

So, it seems like a case where the IE6 settings are set to low and reported as
such but, for some reason, whatever is controlling the security thinks
otherwise and will not let the codec or the Flash Player be installed.

Any ideas?

Taking into account what I just posted, it seems to me a stand-alone installer,
which I could download and run myself and which would not depend on the browser
to run it, should work fine as it would bypass the browser.

Questions:
- Is there an installer program for Flash Player 9 which I can download and
run manually? - or -
- Is there any way I could run the downloaded installer manually? What is it?
Where can I find it in my disk? How could I run it?

I have no idea how the automatic installation process works but if it depends
on some other program (directX.exe or such) then maybe that program needs to be
reinstalled or reconfigured. Can some one help?
