macromedia players flash : FPlayer9.0.28 causes Netscape 7.2 to crash.

Hi!

After restoring my computer (PC/XP SP2) (20061220) with a Ghost image and
updating XP, flashplayer+shockwave, everytime I open a page that contains flash
animation/movies it may cause the browser to crash, eg I cannot watch YouTube
movies that are embedded/linked on someone elses page, but I can view them
directly on YouTube. When floating the pointer on the flash animation on
Yahoos homepage clicking "about" for FPlayer, the browser crashes. Generally
everytime there is a flash animation the browser might crash.
I have removed the browser and flash installations...rebooting... and
reinstalled still the same problem.

I removed the FPlayer 9.0.28 and installed the FPlayer 9.0.16 which I had
saved on a CD somewhere, the problem is now gone.

Any ideas, anyone had a similiar problem?

There are issues with Flash Player 9.0.28 in Internet Explorer. There's
something wrong with the ActiveX component. It will lead to a crash on some
websites, and so far there hasn't been any official information from Adobe
concerning this bug.

Solution: Either uninstall FP9 and reinstall FP8. Or start using Mozilla
Firefox, which works just fine.

I replicated this same problem on my PC. I installed the newest version of
Netscape (v8.1.2) and FP installed without a hitch and works just fine. I got
tired of trying to get FP work with IE and so will simply use Netscape for
Flash-heavy sites.

Thanks for posting this topic! Same problem. My band's profile on various
sites is unviewable, because it crashes as soon as the player finishes loading.

I don't want to move all my email files again, and version 8 doesn't include
the HTML editor I use on multiple web pages, so I want to avoid upgrading or
switching.

Is version 9.0.16 the one listed on the Archived page? If that's the simple
solution, I'll use that. If this isn't it, is there a site (or a user) I can
get it from?

Thanks.

I had the same problem and started a similar topic a few weeks ago.

I downloaded/ran the Flash uninstall program to uninstall v9,0.28,0. I then
downloaded the Flash 9 archive from:

http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=tn_14266

I extracted/ran the non-IE version: flashplayer9r16_win.exe.

Ever since I did this, Netscape 7.2 w/Flash content has been completely stable
without a single crash or Flash error message; and sites that require Flash v9
are still happy.

My experience is that Flash 9,0,28,0 has a fatal bug with Netscape 7.2 and the
only workaround I have found is to install the previous version (v9,0,16,0)
which completely resolves the Flash/Netscape instability. I still surprised I
havn't seen any mention of this serious flaw in the Flash support topic:
"4a8d52ae?Flash Player 9 Emerging Issues".
Hopefully Adobe will release an update before too long that fixes this problem
since I would prefer to use the current version.

I have the same problem since late Dec. 06. I use NS 7.2 and all was well
until then. I can only think that I must have been directed to update at some
point and after getting and installing Flash v.9.028.0. many sites that I
attempt to go to cause NS to crash and close.

Thanks for the work in attempting to resolve this issue. I left a support msg
for Adobe concerning it and I encourage others to do the same so that they may
fix their bug for all the NS 7 lovers still out there.

I am going back to the version suggested by Chetto1.

This issue seems to be fixed with Netscape version 8.1.2. Has anyone
experienced any issues with the Flash Player in the latest version of Netscape?

Hi, our corporate web site www.calculated.com is causing some IE browsers to
crash due to the flash9b.ocx file. I am personally running IE 6 and it is
crashing my browser (another PC is running IE 7 and its crashing as well). I
have been trying to do some of my own research and can supply some information
if this would be of help to anyone.

First, I am fairly certain the error on our site is being caused by the
looping mechnism (ActionScript) of our Announements scroller. The Flash based
scroller is connected to a SQL database. We currently have two Annoucments, it
displays them one at a time. When the Flash file tries to loop back to the
first Announement I get the "IE has encounted a problem and needs to close"
error being caused by flash9b.ocx. This is consistant and repeatable on my PC.

Second, as this is an intermittant problem (some PC browsers crash, others do
not), I belive it could be a combination of Flash and Video Cards and/or
Drivers. I read one post where a guy replaced his video card and the problem
went away entirely. This would explain why, in other forums, some people are
saying a specific site is crashing, and others are saying the site is working
fine for them.

I'm sure Adobe will be coming out with a patch (hopefully soon) but what I
would like to know is how to fix our Action Script so current customers, and
those in the future who haven't added the potential patch can view our page
without it crashing (which in turn equals lost sales).

Adobe, we need you!

Hi all,

This forum is specific to Netscape and Flash Player. It would be beneficial if
we kept the issues posted here related to the topic. There are additional Adobe
forums posted on IE 6 and 7. That being said, the best way to contact Adobe
would be to submit a case. You can submit an email support case here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/flashplayer/

It is helpful to generate a crash log as well. I am currently testing this
site: http://www.calculated.com/ with IE 6. If I can reproduce this and
generate a crash log, I will submit a bug.

Here are instructions for you to create a crash log if needed:

1. Open notepad or any text editor.

2. Create a text file with one line:

CrashLogEnable=1

3. Save a file called ?mms.cfg? in the following directory:

c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\

4. Generate a crash in the browser.

5. Open up a command line prompt. From the Start Menu select Run and type cmd
in the dialog.

6. Type cd "Local Settings\Temp" at the command line prompt. Make sure that
you enclose the Local Settings in quotation marks.

7. Type dir *.mdmp at the command line prompt.

8. You can submit a case for Flash Player here:
http://www.adobe.com/support/programs/flashplayer/

9. Include the crash log if you submit a case.

Regarding Netscape: Has anyone experienced any issues with the Flash Player in
the latest version of Netscape 8.1.2?
