I'm new to this site, so I hope I'm in the right forum. I'm trying to download Flash Player, but when I click on the "Install Now" button, I go to the next page, but it doesn't download. There is a blank square above the "Important Message" telling me that I may have to "click on the "Gold Bar" at the top of the browser window to allow the install", but there is no "gold bar" to click on. :confused; I would really appreciate any suggestions you have to offer. Thank you, BabyG2U :rose;
Whoops!! Didn't mean to add the above msg. three times!! My 'puter kept insisting that the forum web site was experiencing a problem....next thing I know, the above msg. was added three times. Sorry!
Hey BabyG2U, I GOT IT!! Hope my solution works for you. (I should have thought of it sooner!) From your desktop: START --> CONTROL PANEL ---> ADD AND REMOVE PROGRAMS When I did this, I found that the Flash Player was listed twice. In any event, highlignt the program, and tell Windows to Remove it. If you have it listed twice, remove both copies. (I suspect that having the listing in their twice was somehow part of the problem.) Just go back to download web site, and start all over again. When I did it, it worked liked a charm. When I wanted to start the download, I did get a msg. from my anti-virus software package to "click here to allow active-x controls" and had to click once or twice to follow the directions, tho that didn't appear on any "gold bar". But, once I did (and note that when I was having the problem, I never got asked to "allow the active-x controls"), the download happened and then the install. I theorize that when I went to upgrade from the previous version for the first time, that *something* went wrong that I did not immedialely notice. Removing the whole thing allowed the download and the install to happen with no problem. Hope that this is the solution that works for you!!
This is exactly my problem, but sadly not the solution. I have removed all traces of Macromedia from my computer with the uninstaller and by brute force, but I still can't install FP8. I run into the same problem you had, but I don't have two copies of flash player shown in add/remove programs (I don't have one copy, either!). Nevertheless, when I try to download FP8, it skips the 'download now' screen and goes directly to the 'install now' screen, which does NOTHING, no matter how long I wait. After I do this, though, I notice that 'easy' flash objects won't even display on IE. For example, without any copy of FP, I can see the image displayed at the top of the 'macromedia.com' website. However, after installing FP8 (unsuccessfully), this image no longer shows up at all. Instead, I get a blank box with an 'x' in the upper left corner, or a blank box with the 'circle, triangle, square' icon in the upper left corner. You know, the 'flash player ain't working' icon... It almost seems like internet explorer is blocking flash videos, but believe me, my security settings are correct. I am in custom mode, 'medium' setting, and I double checked to make sure signed flash objects can be downloaded and run. Any other ideas? This is really driving me Nutty!
Hello all that have spoken regarding this issue of not being able to download the flash player. I have been having all the same problems . I have got so far then have been given a screen with a red cross in the top left hand corner and not been able to go any further. I installed the stand alone jobby that says its the flash player for those wo cant download it the main way but still no joy. If anyone does come up with a solution PLEASE PLEASE let me know. Many thanks Kayli.:D:confused;
I had the same problem, and finally solved it by first removing macromedia flash player from add/remove under control panel. then I don't remember where in this website I found the advice to check my temporary internet files under tools>internet options>general tab>temporary internet files>settings>amount of disk space to use. Mine was set to 1MB the file needs at least 150MB by changing that I was able to download the new file. Hope this works for you, I'm only taking more of my precious time to write this because I have been so frustrated on many occations for months trying to accomplish this and finnaly did!
This is the exact problem that I am having. I recently sent an e-mail to detail this dilema for macromedia.com, but they have yet to offer a clear solution. All of the suggestions posted on this support forum have been tried and were unsuccessful. If anyone else has any ideas, they would be greatly appreciated. :|
Well I see that i am haveing the same problem as everyone else on here. FP8 wont download for me either. Except when I click to download it the window freezes on me. I have tried the web site I have tried when the "box" for it pops up on me when I'm on a regular site, an says that I need it to see things on the page. An everytime it freezes on me. I was told by someone that there was some place on ur 'puter that u had to change the setting or some thing....but ofcourse they could remember where it was....lol But I have to say it but it doesn't look like we r goin to find the answer here. Cause we r all in the same boat
I have a SOLUTION for the FLASHPLAYER PROBLEMS... do the following steps... 1) go to internet options > programs tab > Manage Add Ons 2) Look for Flash, and highlight it. 3) Right click and update it, or simply make sure the ENABLE BUTTON is installed. Email me if this works at banadoora@hotmail.com
I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106 and I don't have a place to "Manage Add-Ons" under the Program tab, or anywhere else, for that matter. Notwithstanding, I'm also having the same problems the others have -- namely, getting to the dowload and install page, my modem looks like it's downloading something for about a minute or so, but absolutely NOTHING ever happens. I still have a copy of Macromedia Flash Player 8 in my "Add/Remove Programs" screen, but when I click to remove it, nothing at all happens there, either. I'm tempted to just remove every reference to Macromedia in the Registry, but quite frankly, the Registry still creeps me out, even after all these years. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Anyone? :D Originally posted by: DJBanadoora I have a SOLUTION for the FLASHPLAYER PROBLEMS... do the following steps... 1) go to internet options > programs tab > Manage Add Ons 2) Look for Flash, and highlight it. 3) Right click and update it, or simply make sure the ENABLE BUTTON is installed. I'm using IE 6.0.2800.1106 and I don't have a place to "Manage Add-Ons" under the Program tab, or anywhere else, for that matter. Same version here. Same problem... I've noticed that nobody posts what version of Windows they are running. My configuration is Win 98SE with the above IE version. Somewhere in System Requirements it says that it should be Windows 98 with IE 5.5. Would the problem be caused by the fact that I have too new a version of IE??? Does anyone here have my configuration? Any input will be appreciated. Juergen

Juergen I'm also using 98SE and I wonder if that is the problem; I hope not, though, because both Flash and Shockwave have worked perfectly for 3 years on this machine until last week when something corrupted the files; I just can't get them to download, and if the IE version is the problem, I hope Adobe/Macromedia will address the situation.
I have Windows xp and use IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_GDR.05031-1519 . i HAVE REMOVED EVERYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH FLASH PLAYER!. I can install it , but when it is installed it doesnt work! Please Help me!

My problem appears to be solved, but I wish I could definitively tell you how or why. I started using every diagnostic tool I could find, and eventually Norton found some file names that were "illegal", or too long, or something, and I had it correct them. The files in question didn't seem to have anything to do with Flash or Macromedia, but all I can tell you is that after I went through all of that, things started working again. I also cleaned up a bunch of garbage in the Windows/Temporary Internet Files/Content.IE5 folder. Why it says IE5 since I'm using IE6 might remain one of life's mysteries. I have no idea if any of you have a similar situation, but it might be worth investigating. Good luck, folks! And Macromedia, if you're watching, it would be nice if you stopped in here once in a while :confused;
I don't know if this helps anyone but I had the same problem as all of you and I found that if I closed down all instances of my browser, in this case Firefox, and installed Shockwave first then gave it a few seconds after it installed successfully, flash player installed with no problems. To make sure it installed properly I went to a website other than macromedia that I know uses flash in my case fhm.com and it has worked. I hope that works for some of you.
