Maybe my solution will help you as well - I found it on Apple's website re:
Panther. The problem seems to be with certain Mac applications playing with the
frequency settings on the computer.

If you go to the Applications folder, and then the Utilities folder, you'll
find the Audio MIDI application. Open it up, and then change the setting in the
lower right -- which often gets set above 48000 kHz. Reduce the setting to
48000 or less, and you should again have audio in your web apps / with your
plugins.

I had the same problem, this worked for me fantastically, thank you so much, I
was tearing my hair out (think I'd chnaged MIDI stuff cos I was using an audio
app a while back). Love ya! xx:heart;

Alright I was having the sound problems. Sound worked great on everything,
except on flash files.

I am using the realtek AC97 audio driver with 4. ch. speakers
I noticed when i tried to switch it to headphones in the realtek sound
manager, I wasn't getting sound from anything.
I plugged in my usb headphones (completely seperate audio driver i'm
assuming.) and it works fine for me.

It would appear that flash player doesn't like or doesn't recognize 4 ch
speakers. At least in my case. It may not play well with the realtek sound
drivers either. I'll see if I can't do a few more tweaks and see what i can
figure out.

alright I uninstalled my ac97 drivers, went in and installed my nforce 4 drivers

Set up my speakers again. Still in 4 channel.

Play a flash animation and get no sound.

I then open the NVMixer and i notice that the spectrum analyzer is moving,
meaning that the sound is playing
from the flash file, it's just getting screwed up in the process to my
speakers.

I tried switching to headphones, and 2 speakers with no luck.
I then clicked surrond settings and was able to get sound, but only by
selecting the delay encoding option
and then using a pre-set option. No other surround settings would give me
sound. I Finally decided that the
preset sound option of "Room" was adequate. It sounds echoed a little bit,
like the only sound i'm getting is from the surround speakers.

Just wanted to post my solution to this problem. It seems that I disallowed
some background operation through my Zone Alarm firewall. Reseting my program
permissions solved the problem for me. So completely dissable your firewall
ensuring that it won't reawake on a restart......then, restart and see if that
was your problem.....take action. Hope that helps someone.
