ok, here's the deal- Just picked up a imac g5 at the office. Newest everything. Websites load and such, everything is good until today. Now, i load pages, and they don't work I keep recieveing an error message. It is as follows. The page has content of MIME type ?application/x-shockwave-flash?, but you don?t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type. A plug-in should be available on this page: It then proceeds to direct me back to the macromedia player DL page. so, I've installed, uninstalled, re-installed both flashplayer and shockwave and still end up with the same answer. Any ideas thus far? I really need to get this ironed out. I did add an older version of Flash to this computer as well as Dreamwaver. So what's my next move here? Thanks
I have the same problem. On the forum, I tried to find an answer. A previous toppic suggests to run Disk Utilities to repair autorizations, but nothing changed for me. I'm really fed up with that, as Safari is my main browser (I only meet this problem on Safari). I have to switch to Firefox each time I want to see a Flash Website ! So crazy ! I've installed Flash Player many times, but it still does not appear in the Safari Installed plug-ins page (you can find it in the "help" menu). So there is obviously an installation problem. Hope someone from the tech support (or not) will be able to solve that !
Ok, I fixed it, but it's not the best solution I guess. You "just" have to force Safari to launch using Rosetta. To do so, control-clik (or right-click) on the Safari icone, "Read informations" (or apple-"i"), and then tick the right box ! That's it ! Another problem could appear : Safari getting slower...
I read your response but i don't see the information you talk about on the right click of the icon. I am pissed that once i installed Studio 8 I encountered this problem. Specifically how did you get the Flash Player to finally install?
I noticed this the last time we did a major mac lab deployment with Tiger. I think it's some sort of an issue with the flash "installer". it happily goes through and does all it's stuff, but either never links the mime type to the new flash player, or links it to the wrong one. you can fix this by changing the plug-in/helper app associated with the application/x-shockwave-flash MIME type in safari preferences. I don't recall the exact path flash dumps itself in, but I'll post a clear procedure later today when I get to work.
I may not have been enough clear :) When I talk about right-clicking on the icon, I mean doing it in the Finder window, on the icon that you can find inside the "Application" folder, not on the icon that is in your Dock. Installing the Flash Player should not be a problem: if you've installed Studio 8, it must be installed ! If not, just download the Mac OS X installer. If you meet a problem (such as an automatic detection that leads you to the Windows installer), I suggest you use another web browser to download the installation. The problem with Safari is that, when not launched under Rosetta, it does not recognize the installed plug-ins (such as Flash Player, Flip4mac etc...).
Thanks so much. Forced Rosetta when I finally figure out the Get Info. Now the player works and am back to normal...fingers crossed. Still have no idea what Rosetta is about-have been away from the mac environment since 1997.
Read the statement below and haven't a clue where to start. Don't see "application/x-shockwave-flash MIME type in safari preferences" anywhere in safari preferences. Your help would be appreciated. Seems like i am on a chase again. you can fix this by changing the plug-in/helper app associated with the application/x-shockwave-flash MIME type in safari preferences. I don't recall the exact path flash dumps itself in, but I'll post a clear procedure later today when I get to work.
Oops spoke too soon. Now it is trying to get me to download the Java virtual machine. Which was not a problem before. Any other ideas?
