:confused;
I may have deleted my previous version of flash player from my system.
Currently running windows 98 with Norton 2005 anti-virus.
Tried approx. 5,000,000 times to install newest vesion of flash player 8 but
my system will not allow it. It gives me a dialog box with red x and message
along the lines of program will now close, all unsaved work lost. Then another
box appears saying IE has encountered a problem would I like to send an error
message. I have tried using the uninstaller...it seems to work....I have
checked my security settings and set them to allow activeX etc. I have used
the stand alone installer...but it all falls back to the error mesages...at
which point I have to run the unistaller again or any site I try to access that
has flash content will crash and send the IE error message...what the heck did
I do? How do i fix it?

The fact that IE crashes after the Flash Player ActiveX control install
is interesting, and possibly indicates some instability in your OS that
you might not be aware of.

Can you copy the -exact- error message tne crash log info into this thread?

Well, burning the computer would be very satisfying...

Considering that you sometimes blue screen I'm inclined to say that it's
time to reformat and rebuild the machine, either by yourself if you have
the savvy or by a pro. That's a drastic step, but that's what I'd do
personally.

Or you could switch to FireFox browser. :)

Or you could keep on trying to figure this out. We can be of some
limited assistance on this forum, but you'll have to manually type out
that error message if we're going to be able to offer any decent advice.

If you do choose to stick with trying to figure this out then the first
thing you should do is run as many virus and spyware scans as possible.

No, I cannot copy the error message. I tried and it will not allow the info. to
be copied. The install process with the stand alone installer completes as it
should, but as soon as I go to any site after the install that has Flash
content, I get the message. I looked at the technicl data that IE sends for
the error message for reporting, and it is massive in length. After I send the
message, I get the second message stating that an illegal function has been
done and the program will now close...I then use the uninstaller, clear the
whole appl., and I can then go to site's with flash...but no flash
appears..just text. Yes..ocaasionally my system does freeze up..I use the
ctrl alt delete que to exit and I get the blue screen saying an application is
not responding and my system has become unstable..I am ready to burn this
computer..it is 6 years old, and windows 98 sucks! Suggestions?
