macromedia players flash:
one of our biggest client has a serious problem with the flash plugin/explorer
(on windows xp) combination.
we are doing a flash interface for an application that retrieves database
information through a backend scripts.
there are 2 versions of it - one in english and one french. it's a postal code
locator. the english version is at:
http://useyourcash.com/ca.html
the french at:
http://useyourcash.com/french.html

there is no preloader for now.. it's not important for now..

the problem is that after they enter a postal code in the field and do the
request the english version returns nothing while the french version works
fine. they both work fine for me. on any platform i've tested. the tests i do
for windows/explorer are done on virtual pc on a g5 mac. for me it works every
time... i can not reproduce the problem here...

last friday i had to go to their offices to actually see that indeed the thing
doesn't (apparently) even try to retrieve anything - the english version that
is. it just jumps to the frames in the movie where the result should be but
nothing shows up.
i thought it's some kind of cashing so i spent all weekend pretty much redoing
the code and changing all the variables to be different for both versions and
the in the backend scripts that are basically the same but return different
variables and have different names of course...
yesterday it worked for them - the english version that is, the french always
worked. today it does not. i haven't touched the files since yesterday...

now i don;t know what else to do and they are really pissed.

for now i blame the windows flash player/microsfts explorer on xp. i don;t
have any other explanation and apparently adobe/macromedia doesn;t have any
thecnical support numbers i can call and get this resolved.. of course they
will blame each other and i'll just loose my time...

so i'm posting this here to possibly get some help or any explanation that
would make sense of all this windows mess.....

you can test the application with these few canada postal codes (or any other
valid ones):

s7L 4r6
K2B8C1
K6V0A4
J6W3Z5
H1M1W9
G2G2R8
H3Z1X5
G5R4C2

thanks a lot...

Um... of course we do. But in this type of situation I'm not sure we
could even help you. As a developer you have a responsibility to debug
your application.

I tested both versions and they both worked fine for me in firefox and IE..

So you've got to either use the remote debugger or some test output
fields to dump variables and try to find out what you -are- getting
back. You can also check your scripts and have them dump the variable
to make certain they're being returned. If you're using LoadVars you
can try to also catch any possible errors being returned by the call.

In any case, support is available at http://www.macromedia.com/support/.
We don't debug customer applications though. But if you can nail it
down to a specific API not working then perhaps we can help (and we can
offer general troubleshooting advice...)
