Here at the lab, we run Window Terminal Server 2003. If you do not know what
a Windows Terminal Server is, basically it is a single server which allows
users to run a Windows desktop on a client. So if you are using Linux, Sun,
Mac, or another Windows computer, you can log into the Terminal Server and open
a Windows desktop right on your computer. I have 20 Windows Terminal users.

The free flash player 8 does not install correctly for all users.

You can install it an administrator, but then only administrator can use it.

If a user installs it, that specific user and the administrator can use it,
but the rest of the users cannot use it.

No one has replied to this post or have contacted me with a solution.

Doesn't Macromedia Flash support personnel read the forums?

Same problem here, 3 TS's 100 users and nobody can view Flash 8 sites. Player
says it installs, however when you check version it is still 7.x and you get
flash8a.ocx error when you log on your TS session :o(

Followup:

I am no longer looking for testers. This issue is resolved in the 4/6/06
refresh of Flash Player 8.0.24.0. Downloading the latest Flash Player
installers should take care of this for you. We are in the process of
updating the effected technotes and getting this information out to the
public.

We have the same issue here.

THE PROBLEM IS NOT FIXED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have downloaded the "refreshed" 8.0.24 (WHY DIDNT YOU GIVE IT A NEW MINOR
VERSION?) and it doesnt work still.

I have this on 2003 TS's, 2000 TS's and 2000 & XP desktops. If you install as
an admin user, only that admin user can use it.

WHY WONT YOU FIX THIS !

Same prob here but only on a Windows XP Home desktop pc. After running the
flashrepair.exe it finally worked for the admin but still I am not able to use
the Flash Player or install it with a restricted user account.

I am mainly using a restricted user account for surfing the web so it would be
absolutely helpful. An install with the standalone installer failed.

I have the same problem as well and would like some info whether this problem
is or will be resolved. I have a perfect test senerio and I'm will to try
anything. I have a Terminal Server that installed over VM. I can revert to a
snapsnot and perform testing. Please let me know.

:disgust; Sorry Bently your post on 4/21/06 about the new update does not fix
the problem with flash and limited/restricted users. I've jumped through every
hoop thrown at me about this problem and I still have no flash for limited
users. This is a real dissappointment. I believe everyone with this problem
have been patient long enough. Lets get a fix already! More people from adobe
addressing the public about all the bugs in flash 8.0.24 wiuld be helpful also.
Quit hiding already!!!!!

Other than these few posts every other case that's come in via support has been
resolved.

If you still have an issue with restricted users please do three things.

1. If you're a Flash Player Distribution License holder, make sure you're not
being effected by the installShield issue described in "Flash Player MSI
installation will fail on machines that don't have administrative privileges."
(http://www.adobe.com/go/df875c9e). Applies to anyone installing via the MSI
(though legally only holders of the Distribution LIcense can use the MSI...)

2. Test the new Flash Player 9 installer (http://www.adobe.com/go/getflash)

3. If you're not effected by #1, and #2 open a support case via
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer.

Is there a definitive resolution to this, I have about 20 thin client users who
require access to a customers extranet but the login is flash based.

I don't even want to experiment with changing permissions on my Terminal
Server or anything else, I want a product that installs and WORKS with no
hassle.

Sort it out ADOBE your damaging your customers with these issues.

Resolution:

Install the software the way you must install software on a TS.

Download the Flash Player 9.0.28.0 (Complete Standalone Installer).
http://www.softwarepatch.com/internet/flash.html
On your Terminal Server go to:
- Control Panel
- Add or Remove Programs
- Click "Add New Program" button (left)
- Click "CD or Floppy" button (right)
- Use the wizard ans browse to the msi file.
- Install Flash
- Voila

Now Flash player is installed for all users.

Not to offend but I am well aware of installing software on a Terminal server.
You can also use the "Change User /install" command with the command prompt.
This still did not fix the problem for me.
Thank you for your time.
I wish adobe would get on the F$*%ing ball with this.

I agree. This has been a MAJOR frustration for us. We have 600+
users on terminal servers and this really sucks. It's even worse
because it USED to work. Users just don't get why it doesn't anymore.

Here is the solution that worked for me. I got it from another user (not an
Adobe Tech)...
[Q]Originally posted by: Terminal Server Tech
I have solved this issue by changing the permissons to "READ" for everyone on
the two registry keys below. (Ensure it is replicated to the child objects.)

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\TypeLib\{D27CDB6B-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}]
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB6B-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}]

Next time the users login, it works.
By default, EVERYONE is denied. Hence the error.[/Q]

Does anybody know why it would make a difference if "Everyone" had READ
permissions? When I checked my registry settings "Authenticated Users" already
had READ access so I just do not understand why "Everyone" would be necessary.
Course, even with adding Everyone-READ I am still having the issue...
Using the Flash Distribution Licensed copy (install_flash_player_active_x.msi)
Installed locally on each server as Administrator using Add/Remove Programs

Out of 30 Windows Server 2003 SE Terminal Servers I have 5 that are not
working properly. Of the 5, all of them are running without SP1. I have a
fair share of the updates though since I'm running WSUS and updating when able.
Course, I have some that are working perfectly fine after the install that are
without SP1 as well. I'm going to try installing SP2 on one of the broken
servers and see if that makes a difference. I'll post the results after I get
to this..

Basically, Flash works under Administrator, but doesn't under the RDP client
sessions. All 30 of the servers have the same group policies, and the site
with flash is listed in their trusted sites for Internet Explorer.

Oh, does Adobe every have their Tech Support look at this? I wonder what they
would say about changing permissions in the registry to get it to work?
Course, in my case it still doesn't work even with these changes.. Lovely.. =-)
