Ok so I tried going to this site where it requires me to download the latest
version of Macromedia Player and it gives me a link to this site. When I click
on the link, I click the 'Download' button and then very quickly, it says it
was succesfully installed onto my computer. I go check Control
Panel--->Add/Remove programs and there's no newer verson of Macromedia Player
and I know this because when I return back to the site, it still says I need to
download the lastest verson! I tried almost everything I could think of so now
I'm turning to you people for help! I also when to several other sites which
also told me the same thing and linked me right back here! So it's getting
really frustrating because I've clicked on the download button several times
and it still says I have the Macromedia Flash Player (latest version) on my
computer!
This is the page that keeps telling me this:
http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/download/triggerpages_mmcom/flash.html

Can somebody tell me why it says I already have the lastest version when I
don't and how can I solve this problem?
If ANYBODY had ANY type of solution or suggestion ALL WOULD BE APPRECIATED!!
please i am so desperate!

Yep,

Two main possibilities :

1)
There is a "kill bit" on the flash'activex element :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SOFTWARE \Microsoft \Internet Explorer \ActiveX Compatibility\
....{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}\

If "Compatibility Flags" value is hex:400 (dec:1024), then flash activex
use is denied in I.E. To un lock, just delete this value. (or set to "0")

2)
Your FP installation is damaged and you can't repair because the
Flash registry keys are locked.

Typically, the symptoms are exactly what you described.
(test on www.youtube.com : if you can't see video...)

<copy-paste mode=on>
for each of the 4 keys in
http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=624850b5
(don't use [advanced] authorization stuff) :

1) i deleted "everyone" line (to clear rights)
2) i added "everyone"
3) i allowed "read" for "everyone" (don't touch to deny, nor allow write)

the result (in french) :
http://cjoint.com/?etsyFBJyxd

And now i registered flash8b.ocx (or flash8a.ocx if 8b doesn't exists) like this :
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8b.ocx

<copy-paste mode=off>

I hope this helps

Cheers

Hum,

Please create a restore point before working in registry.

Start > Run : regedit

Open "folder" (it's a "key") named "CLSID" and you'll find :
{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}
{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}
{1171A62F-05D2-11D1-83FC-00A0C9089C5A}

In Folder "TypeLib"
{D27CDB6B-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}

For each of these 4 keys :
Right-click the key, select "Permissions"

1) select and delete "everyone" line (to clear rights)
2) add "everyone" (in box, just type : everyone and OK)
3) allow "read" for "everyone" (don't touch to deny, nor allow write/full control)

While you're in, chack also the "kill bit"

Once you've closed regedit, do a Start > Run :
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8b.ocx
(if flash8b.ocx isn't found, just type :
regsvr32 %windir%\system32\Macromed\Flash\Flash8a.ocx

Hope this helps

I'm not sure at 100%, but it's... hum... 95%...

So, you haven't got :
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{D27CDB70-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000}

Registering flash8b.ocx must be OK now and must create
this key.
(see previous posts)

I hope your computer is "clean" from malwares ?

When you repaired registry rights, have you seen "deny" in
"everybody" line ? After repair, all was fine (no deny check box
enabled) ?

Then, try to apply this KB :
http://www.macromedia.com/go/tn_14157

And re-install.

Anyway, you've done a "restore point" like i said earliest, no ? ;-)

Cheers

ps : i've spent long hours resolving my problem and i think
many guys have nearly the same, but sadly not everybody...
The tips i gave you, if well applied, can't break the install
more that it was already.

re-ps : global help can be found here :
