I have been trying to install Flash Player for three days now. I have gone through every support step that was listed and still I can't see any content. Started with the install, didn't work; next came the unistall and reinstall didn't work. Upgraded browser, didn't work. Checked IE settings, didn't work. Checked Admin access, didn't work. Look in registry (as per adobe support instructions), nothing wrong. Please, please, please, help!
Try this first: Instructions for uninstalling and reinstalling the Flash Player: 1. First download the uninstaller to your desktop from here http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157 2. Before running this uninstaller be sure to read the instruction and close all running programs. 3. Open the following folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash 4. Run the uninstaller 5. What files are left in this folder? C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash 6. If there are files left, delete the Flash folder. 7. Install the Flash Player from here: http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer 8. Test the Flash Player here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ If the Flash Player did not install properly, there may be a permissions issue within your Windows Registry. Please login as the Administrator (NOT a User with Admin privileges) and follow these instructions to open the registry. Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't work and there was nothing in the c:/windows/system32/macromed/flash folder after the uninstallation program ran. It eliminated everything. I went into regedit and right clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Under permission entries there is nothing. It doesn't look at all like the example. Should I be adding something??? Also the box for Inherit from parent the permission......explicitly defined here. is checked and it is not in the example...???
Is this Windows XP Home or Pro or Vista? Have you ever run any Window system registry cleaners? Having no groups listed here: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT does indicate a serious system registry permission issue. I would be happy to help you with this. I sent you a private message please respond to my email and I will try to help you fix this issue.
Hi s83982c, Please send me an email to my temp address here:
I have XP Pro. To my knowledge I have never run any registry cleaners.
Hi s83982c, Thanks for taking the time to work with me on this issue. I am happy we were able to resolve it. This was a Windows System Registry Issue. The registry permissions where changed or corrupted and this prevented the Flash Player installation. This is not caused by Flash Player but it will prevent it?s installation. This was resolved using a tool called SubInACL built by Microsoft to correct system registry issues. What to look for: 1. If you install Flash Player on IE and are unable to see Flash content on any webpage 2. After installation C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash will have flash 9c.ocx in it but it failed to register 3. It appears that Flash Player installed correctly, but unable to view Flash content 4. Flash Player works on other browsers, but NOT Internet Explorer 5. If you are missing groups in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT Advanced Permissions 6. If you have run registry cleaners in the past, this may have corrupted your system Warning: The following solution involves the Windows System Registry. Hi dududududududududdad, Well for starters, this is a Windows System Registry issue. Not a Flash Player issue. We would not want to run Microsoft?s SubInACL on a healthy machine. The script can take up to twenty minutes to fix the registry. I don?t think people would be very happy with that. This Microsoft registry problem can be fixed by with a Microsoft tool.
Well for starters, it's ok with me as a webmaster to go trough the above procedure. what about regular not tech aware visitor?? do you think they would want to come back to my website if i ask them to do all this? these problems with flash player installation are the exact reason for a growing trend among developers to move away from the flash content to good old HTML. well, may i add: unfortunately..
I am out here trying to help people who have corrupt Windows registry systems. Remember this is a Windows issue. If anyone thinks their registry may be in a bad state please send me an email at support_flash@hotmail.com and I will help you fix it. Use the references from above to help you compare your system registry with a new healthy one.
:beer; This worked great, but you need to follow through with all the steps to make sure that you are not running the fix without having the symtoms. Kudos to Adobe for taking the time to call from CA to PA and fixing a Microsoft problem! If more companies support pages were like this, there would be a lot more happy users. Listen to what Darren has to say, he knows what he is talking about. Well, again, thank you to Adobe and happy flash design!!!
I am having the same trouble with a blank permissions in my Registery. Would love to figure this out so I can get back to playing my online games. Please Help me out too....Mr Darren McNally. Tank you ever so much. If need be I can be directly contacted at schawn_rolfe@yahoo.com
Darren, you've got another satisfied customer - thanks for the fix. I probably corrupted my registry by running the wrong registry cleaning software at one point or another, but the fix worked and I'm now up and running. I'm a dinosaur that still has dialup, but its a pretty small download to get the fix.
I've tried everything I could think of to fix my problem of not being able to download flashplayer, and still have no luck. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I looked and adobe is on my trusted publishers list, my active-x controls aren't the problem, and I tried the SubInALC but it said it was an unrecognized internal or external command. I'm not sure what I can do to fix it. Any ideas what I could try?
Hi MadhatterMousey, Did you download the SubInACL tool from Microsoft? Are both the reset.cmd script and SubInACL tool on your desktop?
Darren - Can you help me too? I posted a new thread few minutes ago as gingergin. I also emailed for support 3 days ago and never got a reply. I think I have the same issue as all this, but with XP home. does that mean I should not run SubInACL from microsoft? thanx. gingergin163@gmail.com
Hi gingergin, I sent you an email, please respond. I look forward to helping you resolve this issue.
im having the same problem where I went into regedit and right clicked on HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Under permission entries there is nothing. It doesn't look at all like the example. and i dont know what to do
Hi laydeeboo93164544689 ,
Darren, I've read through this thread and several others and must also appeal to you for personalized support because I'm running XP Home. Everything works fine in my profile but not in others, including a new one that I've just created. When I checked the registry in the profile that works, it was blank. I'm guessing I shouldn't run SubInACL using Windows XP Home, and I don't know what else to do (I've already tried uninstalling using the tool and then reinstalling). The affected profiles don't let you check our gmail accounts or log into secure sites (the log in boxes aren't even there). Also, some download buttons don't appear at all. In the profile that works, the Shockwave Flash Object appears as an add-in loaded into IE 7, but, even though it's enabled in the other profiles, it doesn't show as loaded in IE 7. This is a major problem for us because we often have to work from home and can't access what we need. I'd be VERY, VERY grateful for your assistance. Romaniaca :confused;:frown;
If you send me a private message Include the following info: 1. Please tell me if there are any files left after using the uninstaller here C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash 2. What OS are you using Vista, XP Pro, or Home 3. Does Flash Fail on all websites? 4. Have you compared your HKCR permissions with a new install of Vista or XP? (If not read the beginning of this forum thread and follow the directions.
Hi laydeeboo93164544689, Send me a private message with details requested above and I will be able to help you.
Hi Darren, I emailed you separately but thought I'd post here as well. Same issue as everyone else - blank registry and flash not working. I tried the uninstall/install route and had one file not delete in the Flash folder called flash9c.ocx. I did this from my account which has full admin privileges. I believe I'm XP Home version 5.1. My husbands account is identical to mine from the registry to other settings but his flash player works. If you can help one more in the sea of unfortunately, I'd appreciate it. Thanks, Sandy
I have tried all the steps you have given I have even gone into C:\Windows\System32\. then have navigated into the MacroMed file and run FlashPlayer9c as Administrator. I have Windows Vista and I still can't see anything I have been trying to install Flash for the past week.
:smile; Darren, You're the man! System works beautifully and I have you to thank. If only other sw companies would see the value in keeping their support staff stateside, the WIN/TEL world would be a much happier place. Regards, Sandy Lanz
Hello Darren, I hope you can help. I have XP home, and have tried unsuccessfully to download flash. I have tried uninstalling and then re-installing. I have a feeling this may be related to the registry issue everyone is talking about. Thanks in advance.
Darren not only solved my flash program but fixing the registry resolved another very annoying problem we were having as well. He spent between 5 and 6 hours on the phone with me over three days, and I can't thank him enough. And,as s83982c says, it's a Microsoft, not an Adobe, problem that he's working so hard to fix for everyone. So I just want to publicly thank Darren, and let everyone with this registry problem know that it can be fixed and that Darren is the master :-)!
I, too, am singing Darren's praises. He just spent about 45 minutes with me fixing the same problem everyone else on this board seems to be having: we could get Flash to function on one of our computer's user accounts, but not the other. I can't tell you how long my husband and I have spent installing and then uninstalling the program trying to get it to work. Very frustrating! Even if this is a Windows problem, Adobe really does care about it. Contact Darren if you are having this issue on your computer - he'll get it fixed!
Help! I have tired everything you posted on the thread to no avail. I am using Vista Business and cannot see part of www.mlb.com and www.delta.com websites. There might be others too! Mike Corujo Director, Distributed Computing Georgia Technology Authority State of GA Gov't Atlanta, GA
just seen this thread...the fix outlined by Darren seems to be ok for XP pro but what about Home...the advice seems to be not to run the SubinACL routine...downloaded RegCure today and it made no difference
Darren, I am trying to fix Flash Player installation for 3 days and still doesn't work. I have Windows XP Home to I cdidn't want to use SubInACL. What can you do to help me? Thanks.
Darren: Is it possible to have you help me fix me system? I have not been able to fix the problem using your suggestions here. On our computer, two poeple use the same one, with two separate logins. Both of us have administrative accss, but the other login can use Flashplayer, and I cannot. Any suggestions?

I too have XP Home service pack 2. Anyway to get the instructions on what to do for flash player. Darren, you seem to be the man.
I am also looking for a solution for this same problem. ie 2 XP Home users both admin and all HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT is also blank, with only one user able to use flash. Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks,
I am also an having the same issues with my FlashPlayer. I am looking forward to getting the issue resolved. To give you a small amount of background info: My OS is XP Home with SP2. I have run registry cleaners and feel that is where the problem came from?. Much to my error for running them! I am the administrator form my PC, looked at the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. Group or User Names: Everyone That is the onlything listed. As others have said, I have run the uninstaller from adobe and tried to re-install and have had no success. When I try to view any flash content I get the message that I need to install flash player. I would appreciate any assistance in this issue. Thanking you in advance! Saker1
Help! I'm unable to get flash 9 to download - I have tried all the fixes in the support info page - and read that it may be registry issue ??? Please let me know if you can fix this??? Best Warwick Banks
Hello, I am having a lot of problems installing flash player. I have tried and tried and it just doesnt want to work on thsi pc. I have downloaded teh uninstalled, deleted the flash folder from within the windows/system32 folder, emptied temp folder, rebooted, set permissions in regedit, and still its not work. It seems its not installing all the way. When I agree for it to install it shows the ball with the F in it for a moment with the green dashed line below it and then it goes to here: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/flash/completion/en/0/ and there is no movie at the top of the page likes it says there should be. Is there anway i can download the entire install file and run it manually instead of doing the online install?? or does anyone have ANY other ideas on how to get this install t o work? This pc is running winxp home and seems up to date.
yeah i am having the same problem, i went to the permissions page in my registry and it was blank, i wanted to consult u Darren first before i go and really screw up my registry. Ive allready emailed you. oh and im running windows xp home edition
how do i correct this problem with windows xp home my registry appears intact.
I cannot install Flash 9. From reading the various posts I believe I have the same registry permissions problem as so many others have noted. How it got that way I have no idea. Also I have not experienced any other problems other than installing Flash. I have Windows XP SP1 and I have no groups listed under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. If I download and run this SubinACL tool from Microsoft will it screw anything else up since I've never updated my XP with SP2. Why is not having any groups listed in the advanced permissions a serious problem, other than preventing Flash from installing? My fear in trying to correct this I will create scores of other problems. Can making these changes to my registry, assuming done correctly , cause other problems? I will pose this same question to Microsoft as well. Any insight is appreciated.
Dear David, My computer does not have an earlier version of the flash player. I, therefore, assume there is no need to follow the uninstall, then install steps. Is this correct? Maggie ada
Still having problems with Flash Player. I did everything Darren said and everything works perfect untill I use Internet Explorer (latest version). Other browser (Firefox) no problems, so I think Flashplayer is installed properly. What goes wrong? IE says "please install" but installation is already done, otherwise I could not see anything with Firefox. Strange,.... Flashplayer works on my other computer with Firefox AND with IE. greeting from the Netherlands
I am also having the same problem with Windows XP Home. I have 2 users, both of them admin rights. My account the Flash player works correctly but the other account it does not work and keeps prompting me to re-install it. I have gone through the steps that Darren describes and I have no groups in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. I have seen that Darren has helped many people I have even posted a message to the support_flash@hotmail.com address but still no response. Is there any posted fix to this problem?? Has Microsoft address this problem?? Anybody gotten any help with this, I have notice that after 5/25 nobody has posted that they have corrected problem? Thank you for your help ddecost2@yahoo.com
Dear Darren, It is weird on my internet explorer in that when I use my username which is the administrator, I can't see charts on yahoo finance, or any animation with the adobe flashplayer. however, when my wife uses her username on the same computer, the animation and charts come out just fine. I am so frustrated and need help. Thank you.

Does not work for me. Flashrepair answer = "OCX ShockWave Flash file is missing" and then ask "install on line?" Ok?. After that I get the Install.exe and run it. But no better result. Flashrepair answer again = "OCX ShockWave Flash file is missing" Flash player still not working with Internet Explorer. It does work with Firefox. greeting from the Netherlands again
I failed to say to reboot your computer....
As I have been reading that everyone has problems with flash 9, as I have been experiecing the same thing, downloading it and not showing up in the programs. It is causing me major headaches. Is this problem related to upgrading to explorer 9 or some add ons that might cause this I added google toolbar. also if I did a system resore from before this happen and/ or download flash8 will the program end until the assh@@@@ at adobe fix this problem. Help is needed
I am throwing in the towel in hope that Darren will someday respond for my calls for help! I have done EVERYTHING the forum has listed to no avail. I have reinstalled Vista Business, upgraded to Vista Ultimate, but whenever I boot the PC 4-5 times, the problem comes back. By the way, that FlashRepair tool is only for WinXP. It will not run in Vista. Darren, please help me with this!! Mike Corujo mcorujo@bellsouth.net
Flash player is not completly installing. I had it before but had trouble installing it then. I was able to download it from a trouble shooting link. However that forum no longer exist so though I try to install version 9, the movie that should appear doesn't and so it doesn't completly install and I can no longer view some things. Can you help me? I have Windows XP, using IE 7.0
Darren, After reading through this forum, I'm convinced you're the man to help me. About a year ago I started having identical problems to what most people in this post have had. I'm convinced my problem is in the registry. I think I have some adware embedded in my startup and McAfee won't let me delete it because it's quarantined. I think all these issues are somehow related to the fact that I can't download Flash 9. My 14 year old niece is coming to stay with me and she'll die without being able to use MySpace! Help!! I have WIndows XP Home. Thanks, Jo
I was having several problems with this myself, 2 users only one could see flash and the other was prompted to install flash, XP Home. I did post twice to this forum also seeking assistance. Last night I came across this thread: http://192.150.14.120/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=184&threadid =1148342&enterthread=y Topic Title GETTING TO BE A REAL PROBLEM!!!! I downloaded the FlashRepair.exe (From this other thread) and then I ran the Flash uninstall program. I then reloaded the Flash Player from http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer I then ran the FlashRepair.exe. I then tried the other user account and Flash was working under all users. I hope that this information may help somebody else. Good Luck ddecoste
Hi Darren I am having the same problem, as the others, with Flash Player. I have tried the first steps of your advice (exactly as you wrote) but it was unsuccessful. Then I tried your second advice, the one that involves the "regedit" but at the end of the final step (5- select advanced) I did not know what else to do. This problem is driving me crazy! I have been trying to fix it for about 2 weeks! Every time I use the internet I am unable to see images and videos. Or even to play games! Please, help me! My windows is Microsoft Windows XP, Media Centre Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. If you need, my email is: para_sabine@hotmail.com Thank you for your attention.
Penno, Did you try to run the Flashrepair after you installed the Flash the first time? I also got that same message after I Uninstalled Flash from all profiles. I then did a clean install, after turning off all other running software., antivirus, yahoo messenger etc, I then ran the Flashrepair and it was then working nicely on all other profiles. The first time I tried I got the same error but I would have expected that error since I had just unistalled Flash Player. Basicly here are the steps that I did: Use the Flash Uninstaller from Adobe on all profiles. I then closed all other profiles. I exited all other running software ie antivirus, yahoo, etc I then installed the Flash Player form Adobe website. Next I ran the FlashRepair. I then logged off that profile and tryed the one that was giving me problems and it was now working. I am running XP Home. I do not know much else about the flash player or the repair utility, Darren or Jean-Marc would need to help with that. I wish you luck. ddecoste
Darren I have gone into my registry and my permissions are blank. Could you help me get the flashplayer working. It does work in MSN but not explorer.
Now I got a complete other message when I ran Flashrepair! DLLRegisterServer in c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash9c.ocx failed Code: 080070005 Peeno
Before I do so, I aks for advice. Would it be a possibility first uninstall not only Flash player, but also uninstall Internet Explorer?
Hi! My customer is local admin. But she can't run the installation. I can as sysadmin. I've uninstalled and installed stand alonde flash player and run the updater file on C:\Win..\System32\Macromedia\... restarted. The installation seems complete but when she visits a webpage tha requiere flash player it prompts her to install one. The regedit files look like in your example. Any other idea? Regards Björn

Darren, thank you so much. I have been trying to figure out why my computer won't play flash content. After trying the first solution you recommended here (the uninstall and reinstall), everything is fine and works now. What a relief!
I have tried all your suggestions and my registry does match the screen shot but yet I still cannot run a flash program. The flash video will load and play for about 2 seconds and then quit. Can you please help. Thanks
Yes, Does SubInACL.exe work on Windows XP Media Center SP2. I have been watching this thread waiting for an answer. This has been asked, but I'm not sure I've seen an aswer. My registery permissions are blank as well. HELP!
hi i was just wondering if you could help me with what sounds a lot like this problem here. first i have Windows XP Media Center Edition, and i just bought my computer like a week ago and for some reason flash wont work on my pc. i had unistalled and then reinstalled but still it didn't work.if someone out there maybe able to help me i would be ever so greetful. john_taylor_22@hotmail.com
Darren. I don't think my problem ever made it to you. But I 1/2 fixed it. my nick name on site is 21xiF. It did appear on list though. Anyway I had same problem with Registry Permissions being blank also and not being able to use flash player. what I did while waiting for reply from you was: I typed in All Users in permissions registry list. This corrected problem BUT I now get an error box at start up saying. hirp.exe. unable to locate component Frnu.dll this application has failed was not found Re-install application may fix problem. Do you have any answer for this? All things work just a annoying box to x off at start up. Thank.21xiF
To All: If you have tried every fix posted in this topic, go to the main page and read my "Non-Flash Player Problem from Hell!" posting. It might help! Thanks to Darren for his efforts! He gave me the idea to look into it being a JAVA problem and not a FLASH one. This led me to troubleshoot my firewalls, which is were the problem resided. Thanks, Dude! Mike Corujo Marietta, GA
I've been working on this for days using all the suggested readings that haven't worked. Meanwhile my kids are breathing down my back because they have to check e-mail on their desktop but play on mine. I tried the suggestions on this website and it worked immediately without having to change any registry information that I didn't feel comfortable with. http://www.softwarepatch.com/network-security/flashdownload-security.html I'm so happy. This was so easy compared to all this other stuff and answering questions that didn't make any sense to me. I hope it works for you too.
Hi Dareen, I desperately need your help. It looks like you've helped a lot of people fix their problems with downloading the Adobe Flash Player. I have not been able to access my home page (Roadrunner) for about a month now. I've spent 6 hours today trying to fix this problem. When I try to download the Adobe Flash Player it goes to the screen where it says I should see a completion movie but nothing ever happens. I have adjusted my settings, that didn't work. I removed Internet Explorer 7 and went back to version 6 and that hasn't worked. I keep getting error message that say HTTP 403 Forbidden. I'm not sure if this comes from changing my settings. I can't download the reset zip file that you mentioned and the SubinACL. I'm stuck and I don't know what to do. Is there a way I can download an old verison of the flash player or can you help me fix this? It looks like this has become a problem for many people. Is Adobe or Microsoft working to fix this mess? Thanks, Kaykeyree

[q]Originally posted by: Darren McNally - Adobe Hi dududududududududdad, Well for starters, this is a Windows System Registry issue. Not a Flash Player issue. We would not want to run Microsoft?s SubInACL on a healthy machine. The script can take up to twenty minutes to fix the registry. I don?t think people would be very happy with that. This Microsoft registry problem can be fixed by with a Microsoft tool. [/q]
Hello Darren, I sent you a private email earlier but thought I would also post. Sounds like I am having the exact same problem as gingergin concerning Flash Player installation which you helped on 5/16/07. I have Windows XP Home. My system registry is blank and the "inherit box is checked". Thanks ever so much.
I am also having problems downloading Flash Player. I have XP Home and when I try to download Flash Player an X appears in a box on the top left hand corner directly under Adobe Flash Player after I click install now. It will not download at all. Someone, I think Darren, posted another link to use to download and it worked, however, Flash Player did not work the next day. Now I can't find that link. I tried all of the recommendations but this is not a registry issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!! :confused;
I too am having difficulties in regard to viewing Flash content. I have followed all of the below suggestions but still, it is not working. I have also tried repairing through the Flash un-installer, I have a message that states: Enter the full pathname to the Installation file with the follownig attributes: %s Source Pathname: C:\DOCUME~1\Damien\LOCALS~1\Temp\GLB19.tmp I click on OK. The message then pops up again. Why does this message occur and what can I do to fix it? Josh
Like so many others, I have been trying for days to install the Flash Player. There are some great suggestions here and I have tried every one without success. Darren, you seem to be the wizard at fixing this so any help would be greatly appreciated! - I have Windows XP Home and IE 6; have administrator access; security set to Medium - It looks like it's downloading but I never get the final "complete" video; just a " mark - Didn't see any permissions in the registry - Tried SubInACL but got an error message that it didn't recognize the commands - Have tried the uninstall/install and making sure the folder was empty I would really appreciate any suggestions! thanks :confused;
I followed these simple steps and managed to sod the machine up (windows 2k) before any one says yes its xp/vista but there are still simularities :)
As above i even spoke to Adobe tech support tbh i dont think they have a clue and advised me to let users have admin rights errr hello what planet where you born on, the tech support guy insisted that it wasnt an adobe error but i cant see that, esp when there are so many prob on these forums and other forums to do with flash 9. I have the same problem on machines that have 2k, xppro with ie 6 the flash unistaller does nothing for users profiles and the registry hax are pants also, please let there be an alternative to this or any one with an idea.
[q]Originally posted by: R3G1menT4L none of this works and i cant see how this is a MS problem more adobe and the tech support via phone are usless[/q] Hi R3G1menT4L, Please send me a private message with your phone number and I will help you resolve this issue. In addition, did you open a case with tech-support at Adobe? If you did, send me the case number in the private message as well.

try this - fire up your copy of orca and open up the msi file - go to the "LaunchCondition" section, there should be two entries, one for windows version or something, and another that is like AdminUser - delete the AdminUser row and save the msi. the msi should run through zenworks now without giving that annoying 1603 error. the unusual thing is that - i did this for both the activex (IE) and plugin (firefox) installers - it worked perfectly for the activex installer - it runs with no errors and updates flash. when you do this for the plugin installer, it runs with no errors, but doesn't seem to actually do anything - NPSWF32.dll doesn't get updated. i found that the best strategy was to use the MSI for the activex (IE) flash update, and just a simple AOT/AXT snappshot for the plugin (firefox) installer. doing it this way will give you two app objects that run without errors and actually perform the upgrade. worked for me.
I'm having a different type of problem which doesn't seem to be related to any of the other issues discussed here. If someone sends me a link with a .swf extension, all I get when I click on it, is a blank page, however, if I go to the web page and find the video, Flash Player works fine. I didn't seem to have this problem until I upgraded to the current version of FP.
Darren, I have windows Vista Home premium and installed flash player 9. The installition was successful but it is not working. Uninstalled and Installed many times as per the steps given in adobe but of no good. Please help me.
I to sent an e-mail to your address Darren and it got returned. I have Home XP and have tried everything on this page. When I fo to the test page it states that flash is working, but it does not work on any other pgae. I have no options under permissions when i do regedit .... Ideas???? Anyone????
Hi Folks, Please use the 'Send Private Message' if you want to contact me directly. It is the option listed under the Forum Name.
Well, add me to the list. Flash used to work perfectly before the latest version. It does work in FireFox. I sent you a PM, Darren, but I'm sure you're beyond swamped. I have XP Home or I would try the download for the registry. Thanks for any help from anyone.
Darren, thanks for the PM. It seems to be working now. Thanks for your quick response! I'm sure you can help someone else at this point; I don't want to take up your time. Thanks again.
Darren...how do I send you a private message? I don't see the "send private message" option you mention. I need your help re the same issue as many others - flash player not working on Windows XP. Please advise. Thanks!
Hi Mr McNally, I´m experiencing the same problem of many other users, the HKEY_CLASSE_ROOT blank. I´ve tried to follow the exact steps using MS SUBINACL.EXE to recover my Register, but the problem persists, the blank Register. Please, can you help me because I´m really tired with this matter ?
I too am having the same problem with XP Home. The weird thing is that one account it works on perfectly, the other two accounts, I am not able to use the flash player. Doesn't make sense and would greatly appreciate any help with this.
Darren McNally, I was reading on the Adobe support forum and have read all the information. The Microsoft ?fix? is for XP Professional, I have XP Home. My permissions seem to appear as the ones in the example, but I?d sure like to see a registry example from a user running XP Home, if you have one. When using the flash player, it keeps freezing up?when I check it on your site it runs a little jerky at first and then smooths out and runs fine. But in the real world, it runs for 2 seconds, freezes for 10 seconds, runs for 4 seconds, freezes for 15 seconds, etc. Any help is definitely greatly appreciated. I sent you an email from the address listed above and it was returned as undeliverable. Thanks
I checked the registry with the example given and everything matched up. I tried to uninstall and still having trouble with downloading flash 9. My problem is that I am not even getting a download window at all. I am running windows xp media center version 2002 service pack 2. Darren, please help me out.
I'm having a problem similar to Fee227 -- FP works fine for one user but not for another on the same PC. Here is some history: My PC is running Windows XP Pro SP2 with IE 7. One day IE crashed and I clicked the button to submit the error report to MS. It then gave me a link to a page that said the problem was with Flash Player and there wasn't a known solution but there was a new version of Flash that might resolve the problem. So I installed the latest version of FP and it works fine when logged in using my user account. But now, when my wife uses the same PC under her account, she can't see Flash content on some web sites. If I go to the same web site when logged in under my account it works fine. I tried re-installing Flash while logged in under her account and it seems to install correctly but when she goes to those web sites she still can't view flash content (the site says she needs to install the latest version of flash). Both user accounts are administrators so it shouldn't be a rights issue. I just can't understand why it works for one user and not the other on the same PC??? Do you think the MS registry fix utility will solve this problem?
Darren Having the same problems as all the others. Running XP Pro. Windows. IE. If you would e-mal me with instructions of how to resolve this, will do. Merrill Willgrbs mrwelpa4@earthlink.net 915-598-0163
I followed the instructions at this site and it fixed the problem. Again, thanks to Darren for posting this info.
Thanks so much to Darren for helping us get this problem fixed. He took the time to call us & walk me thru exactly what to do & got it fixed in no time. Really...thank you very much, Darren for going beyond the call of duty for me & many others.
Darren, I've got Vista, and have run into the Registry issues described above. I'm assuming because you deal with each of these privately that there's a different solution for each person? Any help is appreciated. I already sent you a private message.
I have Windows XP Home on my PC and have Flash player installed but cannot view Flash content, specifically on mtv.com. I've tried uninstalling and installing, using "RegSeeker" to fix my registry and used SubInACL, all to no avail. Help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.
VISTA SOLUTION Darren, I hope you haven't gotten tired of hearing this ... you are a lifesaver! For all other users, there is hope! I am running Windows Vista Ultimate (IE7) and had the typical symptoms ... registry admin issues, etc. From what I could tell, this is how Darren corrected the issue: 1. Downloaded and ran Flash uninstaller (now available on Adobe's site - he recommended against using uninstallers found elsewhere on the web for obvious reasons) 2. Downloaded and unzipped the SubInACL script (as referenced in previous posts ... I believe he downloaded from "supportflash dot com slash reset_min dot zip") 3. Ran "reset_minimal.cmd" 4. Reinstalled Flash Player from the Adobe site ... VOILA!!! Thanks again, Darren!
Hi, I've got XP Home edition and am having problems running Adobe Flash Player. It installs ok, but won't run. Is this a registry problem and is there a fix?
I have the same problem. If you find out how to fix please forward. Thanks, Steve
:confused; I am having the same problem like everyone else on here. I attempt to dowmload, the box pops up with the install button available, I click that and then nothing happens. No "installation comlete" or anything, I check the add/remove prgrams to see if it sownloaded and installed but nothing. Don't know what else to do I've gone through all the troubleshooting and uninstalling and still nothing, unable to view content still. HELP!
:frown; I am also having trouble with the download. I get the box to install, click to do so but I do not get anything that it was installed. When I go to the page to check if it is installed, it says it is but I still cannot view the video on 2 different websites. When I check on my computer of programs installed, it does show that it is. Very frustrating.
No WinXP Home SP2 help... have read a lot of users asking for help on this.
Does Anyone else have this problem?- When I try to play my games a box from windows comes up and says "MACROMEDIA PROJECTOR" .is not working. I downloaded Adobe flash player 9. And didn't have a problem before downloading 9. Can anyone help please?????Thanks so much

shellerlyn, There are two types of Macromedia Projectors (all from apps created before Adobe bought Macromedia). Those made by Macromedia Director... the executables made for the desktop with that application are officially called 'projectors'. These would be EXE's on your desktop, but they could have a custom icon.. Flash standalone executables are ALSO called projectors! They're standalone executables also, but they usually have a round icon with an "f" in it. In a Flash projector the entire player for Flash is -inside- the EXE. You don't even need a downloaded browser plugin, and there is no relationship between the Flash Player plugin for browsers and the EXE's created with Flash as standalones. Find one of your games on your desktop, and right-click and choose "Properties". If the game was made with Flash it will usually tell you what version of Flash created the projector in the 'description' field. For example, a projector made with Flash 8 would say 'Macromedia Flash Player 8.0 r22'. What do you see in properties?
Hi, thanks so much for responding. I went to my game and clicked on properties like you said ,but I don't see anything except for exe on the end of it. Would it make a difference if it's a game downloaded from a game site? I wonder if I should try and uninstall the adobe flashplayer 9 and try again? Or do like that one person said to uninstall the correct way then reinstall maybe adobe 8 or something? Cause it sounds like everyone is having trouble with the newer version. Also I have windows vista. Let me know what you think. Thanks so much!
I can't seem to find your posting called "Non-Flash Player Problem from Hell" I have the hirp.exe error calling for Frnu.dll. Can you send it to me at sfrobster@gmail.com? Or tell me where to find it? Thanks Rob
I am also having problems with installing. I am running XP Pro. The PC I am on was home built. I have uninstalled/installed Flash Player. I still cannot run Flash on two websites I've tried. I've looked and compared the Windows System Registry and it is the same as the screen captures. I've seen everyone singing your praises. I'm hoping you can perform another miracle because this is for a graduate online class content. Please help!

[/q] Hello and I hope to have found the right solution to my issue. I have Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 I have uninstalled everything properly due to the same issues (content not visible after downloading player) Firewall settings are OK Javascript settings enabled and OK The thing that I saw that was iffy was the regedit issue, mine was blank; HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > Permissions > Security = Everyone (with two little heads). With Full Control & Read are both checked > Advanced > Permissions = Blank. With Inherit from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these with entries explicitly defined here checked, but the second selection below unchecked. This is my personal home computer, so I have all Admin. rights, etc. Selecting the Owner Tab there are two options available; a two-headed option and a one-headed option (both are me though). May I just add one or both of the Owners from the Owners Tab to the Permissions Tab without messing up my computer registry in order to set the permissions and enable my Flash Player and its content to function? Help! Thanks! Melissa
I'm really sorry to be a bother here but I really need help her. Like quite a few others here when I go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I find it's blank. I have Window's XP for Home and I see the flash player works on one account but not in any of the others.

:frown; Darren, Looking over all the many, many messages about Window XP users that have tried to download the Adobe Flash 9 Player only to not be able to view the video tells me (as well as it should tell you) that Adobe has a definite problem (NOT MICROSOFT) and NOT THE USER with its software! The logical answer to me is for YOU to fix the problem instead of prompting all these hundreds of users to search in vein for a solution that takes them to loops with no resolution! It's clear that Adobe has a definite conflict with Microsoft. Sooooo why don't you all fix the problem ? - the solution is an easy one. Write an Adobe Flash 9 that works. Stop thinking that it's a user or Microsoft problem because it ISN'T!
Hi gili4, Do you need help resolving this issue? The reason for the install failure for most of the folks on this forum thread has been incorrect permissions in the Windows System Registry. If you send me a private message with your contact info (full name, email and phone number) I will help you with the instructions and resolve the issue.

For others having trouble finding the Private Message, it is on the left panel of the forums under my user info.
If this issue is related to incorrect permissions in the system registry, we have been using the following instructions to resolve these issues. Please download the following to your desktop. http://www.supportflash.com/reset_min.zip 1. unzip the ?reset_minimal.cmd? and the ?subinacl.exe? to the desktop *** Make sure both files are on the desktop*** 2. Close out all applications 3. Run the ?reset.cmd? file 4. It will open a DOS like terminal 5. When it is finished it will say ?press any key to continue? 6. At this point you can download the latest Flash Player from here: www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer If you go through the cases in this forum that are related to incorrect permission, these exact instructions have been used to resolve. If you get stuck send me a message and I will try to help.
updated to new player 9.0 having proplems with only one site when i start my online-class and try to watch the videos ,it tells me i have a older version of the flashplayer and need to upgrade. i uninstalled and reinstalled ,ran the other microsoft programs that where recomended ,still get the same message on that website all other websites do work with the player
:confused; Darren - I have tried pretty much everything with the flash player tech support notes - uninstall/re-install; regedit for permissions; norton allowing activex and no popupblocker; subinacl with reset; etc. The problem seems to lie in the registry but I can't seem to find it at all. Flash player used to work on the computer (XPHome) but each user (3) seemed to go down at different times. Now I can't get it to work anywhere. Please help with this issue as I need this program for work and games. Thanks for your help in advance. Ross Poore ross@shacklefords.com
